Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

We hope everyone has had a great start to the second quarter!  We have been working on our plans for the phase-in of our in person Kindergarteners beginning November 17th, as well as our 1st and 2nd graders beginning the week of November 30th.  We appreciate your collaboration and responses as we put these plans in motion.  We ask that you continue to read all information sent through e-Notify in a timely manner as we often need to use that system to send time sensitive information.

When we phase-in our kindergarten students into in person learning and need additional staff coverage in the building, we will need to reduce the daily grade level lunch bunches to one per grade level each week.  Beginning the week of 11/17, we will start the following schedule for lunch bunches:

Lunch Table

As a reminder, Wednesday, November 11, is a two-hour early release day in honor of Veterans Day and will be a virtual (synchronous) learning day for all students.  Instruction will end at 1:20pm on this day.  We are sad to not be able to hold our annual in person celebration to honor our Veterans. Please know we are so grateful for the service of you and other family members and we hope to see you next year for breakfast!

FCPS Family Guide for Return to School

Fairfax County Public Schools is partnering with families to ensure we keep students and staff safe and healthy as we return to school buildings for learning. Working together, we will follow recommended health guidance that focuses on student and staff health, safety, and emotional well-being.

The FCPS Family Guide for Return to School has a wealth of information on topics like concurrent instruction, lunch, the mandatory mask policy, recess, laptops, health protocols, and more.

Tuesday - Friday: 8:20am - 3:40pm

Positivity Project: Bravery

PP Logo

This week, we are focusing on Bravery. You act with mental, moral, or physical strength even when you know things are difficult or scary.

“Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’ ”

                                         ~Mary Anne Radmacher

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • What are some situations that may call for bravery?
  • What are the differences between moral, mental, and physical bravery?
  • Why is it sometimes difficult to be brave?

Yearbook Information and Fall Picture Day Opportunity

Yearbook Photo

Yes, We Will Have A Yearbook!

Students and families may not have a connection to the physical brick and mortar school building yet, but we are still Stenwood Stingers just the same!

To capture this unusual year and to make our yearbook a reality, we need photos of our beautiful stingers in their individual learning hives.  Therefore, we are calling on our community for some help!

Each week, we will be asking for different photos to be uploaded to Yearbook Snap.  Access Code: stenwood.

We will also be asking to collect photos from you, we ask that they are either camera images or cell phone photos without the live feature attached. If you upload photos and the ending is .HEIC instead of .JPG, we are unable to use them in the yearbook.  We look forward to seeing everyone’s photo in the yearbook this year!

Feel free to send us any snapshots from the first day of school and beyond!

Say Cheese Picture

Also… Mark your calendars! Stenwood will be offering a socially distanced picture day opportunity on Monday, November 23rd and Monday, November 30th.  Be on the lookout for a sign up, ordering information, and details regarding our safety protocols and procedures.
