"Go Paperless" for Online Progress Reports

The “Go Paperless” option is now available to all our parents to allow you to receive only online progress reports starting the first quarter of this school year. This will not impact any other mailings from FCPS other than the progress reports. To take advantage of the paperless options, you will need to log into ParentVUE, then click on “My Account” in the upper right hand corner and select "Go Paperless."
Each parent who has a ParentVUE account must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed progress reports. The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all their students, no matter what school level. If the parent has already selected “Go Paperless” for their secondary student, the option will now apply to any ES siblings as well.

Parental Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Hunt Valley our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: Parent Consent

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent now as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to the classroom teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Reminder for Parents/Guardians about SIS ParentVUE

This year more than ever, SIS ParentVUE (PVUE) is an essential tool for parents/guardians to keep up with their student’s attendance, progress report cards, and more. This will be the first quarter that we have offered a PDF version of the progress report and ES parents/guardians now have the option to “Go Paperless” for all report cards and progress reports. We want to start establishing the PVUE habit early with ES school parents/guardians. At the end of last school year, we reached a high of 80% of FCPS students with at least one parent/guardian with a PVUE account. We want to keep those account numbers and the usage going up so we can rely on it as a communication tool with parents/guardians.

Please access PVUE periodically to check in on your student(s) attendance and to view progress reports at the end of each quarter.  If you have not yet created a PVUE account, please do so by reaching out to the school SIA to provide an activation code. Details on what can be found in PVUE and how to activate a new PVUE account using your activation code can be found here - Student Information System - SIS Parent Account Overview

Tech Support for Parents and Students

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk, effective Monday, August 24. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Parents or guardians can call this number for basic tech support with parent accounts, help with FCPS student devices and technical assistance with other FCPS applications. If help desk staff members are unable to solve the issue, they will enter a support ticket on behalf of the parent/guardian to escalate the issue to the appropriate FCPS team. Parents who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call of their preferred language, and an interpreter will join in on the call.

FCPS has also set up Parent and Student Technology Support portal at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/ to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly. When a support request ticket is entered through the portal, it is auto-routed to the TSSpec at the appropriate site to expedite service.

Library Updates

Curbside Checkout

Curbside Checkout is our way of getting the Hunt Valley ES library books into the hands of readers.  It is completely voluntary and is a service to the students and families of Hunt Valley.

 Three steps:

  1. Pick your book(s).  If you know what you want, put the books on hold in Destiny (the library catalog).  If you need some advice or aren’t quite sure the titles you’re wanting, use the Google Form to get assistance from the librarians.
  2. Pick your time.  Pick a time that works for your family on the SignUp Genius.  If it’s after 3pm on Friday – pick a time on the FOLLOWING Monday.
  3. Pick up your books. Monday, Hunt Valley ES (door 8), between 2pm and 6pm

Have a question?  Please email your librarian at crbartlett@fcps.edu.

First Chapter Fridays

Celebrate the end of the week by experiencing the first chapter of a book.  Check the HVES Library Google Site for this week’s First Chapter Friday. (You’ll need to be logged in to your fcpsschools.net account.)

First Chapter Friday is The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart, recorded with permission from Henry Holt and Company.  This is a title from the Virginia Readers’ Choice Middle School selections.

Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, live on bus and haven’t been home in five years.  Join Coyote, Rodeo, Ivan (the cat), and a whole cast of characters as they criss-cross the nation as they experience many “once upon a time” moments.

Check Destiny for more Virginia Readers' Choice books today!

November FCPS Substance Abuse Article

From Mr. Joyner, Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist

Is it November already? Time flies when…well, you know the rest! Here is some timely info that may be of interest to you!

2019-20 Fairfax Youth Survey Results – Vaping Declines

Vaping (e-cigarette use) has been a national teenage problem for several years.  While the national rates of vaping continue to move in an upward direction, according to the most recent results of the Fairfax County Youth Survey, vaping has declined locally in the past year.

The number of Fairfax County teens who say they have vaped within their lifetime dropped from 28% in 2018 to 25% in 2019, according to the survey, which is given annually to Fairfax County Public Schools students in sixth, eighth, 10th, and 12th grades.

The results indicate that prevention education and other initiative are having a positive effect.  While we are making progress, we still have much work to do.  Keep reading for a new initiative that aims to help the students already involved in vaping.
