Attendance Matters

Attendance drives everything! It is tied to almost every aspect of school performance and future outcomes. Please visit the Falls Church High School website attendance page for updated policies and procedures.

A note about Monday attendance:

Please remember that while there is no bell schedule on Mondays, attendance is still required. Students are responsible for logging in to their 4th period/Advisory teacher’s Google Classroom and completing the Google attendance form posted by the teacher between 8:10 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. in order to be marked present.

Good attendance will help your children do well in high school, college, and at work.

  • If too many absences occur, it is still a problem whether they are excused or unexcused because they represent too much lost learning time in the classroom.
  • By middle and high school, chronic absence is a leading warning sign that a student will drop out.
  • Too many absent students can affect the whole classroom, slowing down instruction.

Return to School Selection

Follow-up to the letter that was sent on 10/26/20

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is planning to bring additional student groups back to school for in-person instruction in the near future.  Falls Church High School (FCHS) currently has several small cohorts of select students accessing in-person instruction.  We will continue to follow strict safety and health protocols to minimize health risks for students and staff.  To learn more, visit here.

The remaining FCHS students are tentatively scheduled to return on January 26, 2021 for in-person instruction.

We will honor the choice you made in the FCPS July survey to determine the setting for instruction. You can see your original selection in SIS ParentVUE under Student Info.  If your circumstances have changed, please complete this form no later than November 6, 2020.  If you are changing your decision from virtual to in-person learning, we will try our best to accommodate your request based on the availability of staff and space.  If your preference has not changed, no further action is required at this time.

Thank you for your support and cooperation as we continue on this journey to deliver the best instruction for all students.

The Parent Resource Center in collaboration with Student Services is hosting “Understanding and Benefiting from FCHS Weekly News & Announcements”

The purpose of the presentation is to engage parents on the value of accessing important and updated weekly school information, programs, events.  We will demonstrate for parents where to find it, how to access links, how to identify who to reach out within the school for questions regarding a specific event. We will also share other modes of communication.

We are offering the presentation in English and Spanish. The link to the program will be active on Thursday up to 30 minutes prior to the start.

College Night for Spanish Speaking Families (Open to all grade level parents)

November 10, 2020 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

We are excited to have representatives from United for Justice Organization and The Dream Project.  Each will speak on how parents can support students through the college process.  USJ is a non-profit organization in the DMV area whose mission is to enable more low-income and at-risk-first-generation college bound students access higher education.  The Dream Project empowers students whose immigration status creates barriers to higher education. Both community-based programs have a wealth of information and resources to share with our families.

From the FCHS Spotlight Theatre Company

Falls Church High School Spotlight Theatre company put on a great radio drama this past weekend.  Here is what some of the audience members had to say:

Amaaaazing job, all! We thought it was very clever how you revived radio shows for the new '20s. Once we remembered how to sit down, shut up and listen (which has never come naturally), we were totally absorbed. It was, as they'd say back in the 1930s, quite boffo! Thank you for making us laugh and sit on the edge of our chair (er, couch). The cast was stellar, and the sound effects were top notch. Music was spot on.

Wow! (clap, clap, thunderous applause)! This is my first FCPS Theatre virtual production and Falls Church HS Theatre Arts certainly did not disappoint! First, the technical aspects of the radio show were very well executed. The sound quality was clear, the music was interesting and consistently supported the dramatic action, and sound effects were expertly implemented (they added to the story and didn't overtake the story). Most importantly, the actors did a wonderful job of painting characters, dramatic intention, and meaning with strong vocal choices and clarity of speech. The scene in act one with the reverb and echoes (trial scene) was also really cool! Nico and Rebecca did a great job in maintaining consistency with character and storytelling and Jack was a perfect Narrator :-)! Additional ensemble members did an awesome job of providing an array of interesting characters and voices that kept me engaged and fascinated in the story being told. Wonderful work! Congratulations to Mrs. De Marco, cast, and crew for persevering during these difficult times to create meaningful and quality theatre- you all are inspiring and amazing! BRAVO!

It was such fun to listen to the voices, as they moved around, especially, the invisible man, himself. So good!

My family and I just finished listening to The Invisible Man, and we really enjoyed it, from the 7 year old to the 59 year old. My family said it was astonishing and suspenseful. The acting crew played each part well as they embodied their character. Everyone did a brilliant job, and we can't wait for part two.

Terrific performance! Thank you, except now it's dark outside.... Bingy bangy bumpty boo!

I want to thank our sound crew: Rania Ashoor, Jacky Barahona, Laurel Gilbert and Jenny Tran.  You did a great job!  I also want to thank Chris Le and Joel Harrop- you saved files and helped us make sure the technology worked for this show!  All of the Booster parents that put together and delivered concessions- thank you!  Now for our next show:  SEEDFOLKS!

If you would like to give feedback to the cast and crew, please fill out this form.  They’d love some virtual “applause”!
