Happy Sunday, Freedom Hill Community!
As we enter November, there is more changing at Freedom Hill than just the color of the leaves outside. This week, we welcomed back two more small groups of students to the building. We would like to thank Mrs. Qian, Mrs. Sakkas, Ms. Winkler, Ms. Nakano and Ms. Park for their wonderful support of our students and for helping to make safety our #1 priority. Though instruction in the building looks very different than it did last year, we are encouraged by our very positive start.
Thank you to those who joined us on Thursday for our information session on the return to school. To recap, the tentative dates for return are:
- Pre-K and Kindergarten: November 17
- 1st and 2nd Grades: December 1
- 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Grades: January 4
Prior to the return to school for each grade level, students will have independent learning days. This will allow teachers to plan, set up their classrooms, and prepare for in-person learning:
- Pre-K and Kindergarten Independent Learning Days
- Monday, November 9 and all following Mondays
- Wednesday, November 12 - Thursday, November 13
- 1st and 2nd Grades Independent Learning Days
- Monday, November 26 and all following Mondays
- Friday, November 20, Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24
The dates for grades 3 - 6 will be shared later.
We will be communicating any class changes and schedules to families prior to their return to in-person learning. We appreciate your patience as we carefully review all choices and create a plan that is safe and supportive of both virtual and in-person instruction.
As a final note, the school office will be closed on November 3 due to school use as an election site. Our voicemail is monitored remotely. If you have a pressing concern, please leave a voicemail and our office staff will respond ASAP.
Wishing you safe week,
Nicholas Zapadka, Principal
Eric Kopacz, Asst. Principal

Perspective means that you appreciate when people see things in different ways. You have the ability to understand the world from multiple points of view. Perspective is also referred to as wisdom and is distinct from intelligence. People with this strength are sought out for advice because they see the big picture and can make sense of the world’s complexity. This strength of perspective gives individuals the ability to see to the heart of difficult matters and achieve clarity. Most importantly, they are honest and behave in an ethically consistent manner. |

The “Go Paperless” option is now available to all ES parents to allow them to only receive online progress reports starting the first quarter of SY 20/21. This will not impact any other mailings from FCPS other than the progress reports for ES students and report cards. To take advantage of the paperless options, parents and/or guardians will need to log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless" All parents and/or guardians who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed progress reports. The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all their associated students, no matter what school level. If the associated parent and/or guardian has already selected “Go Paperless” for their secondary student, the option will now apply to any ES siblings as well.
