Online Instruction or In-Person Instruction (Any Adjustment DUE Friday 11/6)

FCPS will continue to honor family choice in the student learning format. Based on your experience with virtual learning, you can choose to remain all-virtual or choose the concurrent model of two days in person and two days online. If your circumstances have changed, we will try to accommodate your request based on staff and space availability. As we transition to in-person instruction, some students may experience a change in schedule or class assignment based on staffing availability.   You only need to complete this form if you would like to submit a change to the choice you made in the FCPS July survey.   We will honor the choice you made in the FCPS July survey to determine the setting for instruction. If you did not submit a survey in July, then your choice defaulted to in-person.   If your circumstances have changed, please submit this form, and we will strive to accommodate your request based on the availability of staff and space.   Your previous choice is indicated below in red font.   If you wish to keep your original choice, no further action is needed.

We will strive to minimize the impact of this transition; however, some students may experience a change in schedule or class assignment as we work to accommodate everyone's preferences.

Underclass Photos (Grades 9, 10 & 11): November 9th and November 16th

  • Students will be instructed to enter the photography location through one set of doors and then asked to exit through a separate location to maintain social distancing.
  • All individuals, school staff and Lifetouch photography staff will be expected to wear facial coverings and adhere to social distancing guidelines, per the CDC. More information on Lifetouch safety protocols for underclass photography can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LevtvXI9l2Q&feature=youtu.be
  • This will be a “paperless” photography program. Camera cards or picture tickets are no longer required. Additionally, any student wishing to purchase a picture package will have the opportunity to do so online both before and after picture day. Picture orders will not be accepted at the camera.
  • All finished picture packages will be sent directly to students’ homes.
  • Instant ID’s will be given to students on-site upon exiting the photography location.

Summer Residential Governor’s School Application Information (10th and 11th grade students)

The Summer Residential Governor's Schools (SRGS) are month-long residential programs for current year tenth- and eleventh-grade gifted students in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Governor’s School is a challenging and enriching Virginia program designed for highly motivated students who are looking for a challenging summer experience.  The selection process is extremely competitive. Most students selected rank in the top 10% of their class and have scored in the 90th percentile on standardized measures of ability or achievement tests. These residential programs run from late June to late July. Only students who are available during that time frame and whose records match these criteria should apply.

Students interested in applying to the 2021 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s (SRGS) programs must complete the academic or the visual and performing arts interest form no later than November 9, 2020. No late applications are accepted.

The Academic Interest Form is available for the Schools for Humanities, Math/Science/Technology, Medicine/Health, Agriculture, Engineering, and Marine Science.

The Visual and Performing Arts Interest Form is available for the dance, instrumental music, theatre, visual art, and vocal music programs.

Additional information about the SRGS programs, application process, and timelines are found online.

Please use the links above for access and info.  Any questions can be directed to Mr. Tim Ready at tjready@fcps.edu.

Action Requested: Help save trees and FCPS $$ on postage by opting in to receive “Paperless” Report Cards (that can be printed through ParentVUE)

Parents/Guardians may opt into “Go Paperless” for report cards by following the below instructions:

  • Parents/Guardians can take advantage of the paperless option, by logging into ParentVUE, then going to “My Account” and selecting "Go Paperless!". This is the only way to keep a paper report card from being generated for students at the secondary level. All parents who share the same address as the student must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option.

Forum: Parenting in the Pandemic

Over 70 percent of kids nationwide have reported struggling with mental health during the pandemic. What's worse, polling shows they're often keeping these issues to themselves. The Langley PTSA is hosting a virtual presentation to help parents help their kids through this pandemic on Thurs, Nov 12 at 12-1 pm.

Featured will be McLean-based psychotherapist Jennifer Weaver, who will provide insight into the range of heightened challenges, including depression, loneliness, lack of motivation, anxiety, and lack of impulse control, that teens are facing during this pandemic. She'll offer guidance on how parents can support them during this difficult time.

Mark your calendars and click here to join the presentation on Nov 12!

Keep Your Laptop Healthy

Never leave laptops plugged in and unsupervised for long periods of time, like overnight.  It is best to always use laptops on surfaces that allow for proper ventilation like a desk or table. Prolonged charging and limited ventilation can damage the battery, the operating systems and cause the machine to shut down completely.

Additional Tips:

  • Shut down the laptop every day after use
  • Use and store the laptop in an area that is free from dust, extreme heat, cold, or humidity
  • Restart the laptop several times per week.
