As a reminder, Wednesday, November 11, is an early close day in honor of Veterans Day and will be a virtual (synchronous) learning day for all students. Synchronous instruction will end at 12:15pm. There will be no in-person classes on November 11. Classes will resume on Thursday, November 12. See the complete 2020-21 school year calendar.

Level IV Advanced Academics Screening Pool
Notifications will be sent out soon to second grade parents whose students are in the AAP Level IV screening pool. If your child is not in the pool and you’d like your child to be considered for level IV services next fall, you must complete a referral form no later than December 1st. The referral form can be found on the AAP website here. This form is helpful, yet optional for parents whose children are in the pool. Please be aware late referrals will not be accepted.

Optional Parent Meeting
On Tuesday, November 10th from 3:00-4:00, Mrs. Lahr will be hosting a Q & A session to answer any questions you might have regarding the AAP Screening/Referral Process. A link will be sent out to the community closer to this event.
Please submit all referrals and optional paperwork together electronically to Mrs. Lahr at cclahr1@fcps.edu no later than December 1st. Late referrals and paperwork will not be accepted. If you have additional questions about the process or your child's paperwork, please contact Mrs. Lahr.

The “Go Paperless” option is now available to all Elementary School parents to allow them to only receive online progress reports starting the first quarter of the 2020-2021 school year.
- Parents and/or guardians will need to log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless."
- All parents and/or guardians who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed progress reports.
- The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all their associated students, no matter what school level.
- If the associated parent and/or guardian has already selected “Go Paperless” for their secondary student, the option will now apply to any ES siblings as well.

A SIS (Student Information System) ParentVUE account is where you can access information about your child's attendance, course history, grade book (for middle and high school), progress reports, and report cards. Customized for elementary, middle, and high school students, your SIS ParentVUE Account login credentials can also be used to access FCPS 24-7 Learning: Parent View.
If you have not yet created a PVUE account, please reach out to Katherine Dillard for an activation code. Details on what can be found in PVUE and how to activate a new PVUE account using their activation code can be found by watching this video.

Meaningful Feedback
It is so important to provide kids with meaningful and specific feedback when they are doing something well. For example, feedback like “Great job!” doesn’t tell your child what she did right. Instead, researchers suggest that taking the time to provide children with information on what exactly they did well can help boost self-esteem and promote a growth mindset. Has your child’s performance, effort, or focus improved since the first day of distance learning? Be sure to let her know about it, even if she still has a long way to go.

As we head into a season full of Holidays and Celebrations, one thing you might consider to do as a family is baking. Baking and cooking together can be tied to math. When baking, there is great opportunity to talk about fractions, measurement, doubling a recipe, and even fair share with the cookies baked. This is a fun activity to do together and tie in learning and good conversation. Here is a sample recipe with some questions you might consider.
