Mrs. Berry and I are going to be holding a virtual meeting for the ADHD parenting group on Monday, October 26 from 7:00pm – 8:00pm.  This meeting is open to all parents with students that have attention, hyperactivity, and or executive function issues.  At this meeting will be discussing the following video https://safeshare.tv/x/k1RyImpuYa4# “Helping children with ADHD cope with Anxiety in the COVID era with Dr. Jonathan Dalton.  At our meeting we will discuss the video and information presented in the video.  We also agreed to read “Parenting ADHD Now” by Elaine Taylor-Klaus and Dian Dempster.  We will decide what chapters to read for the November meeting so you have time to purchase the book and read before the November meeting.

We look forward to seeing you on October 26th. If you would like to join the meeting here is the Google Meet link; https://meet.google.com/bgz-ykgt-pwz If you have any questions please contact either Mrs. Mason tamason@fcps.edu or Mrs. Berry mfberry@fcps.edu

Parental Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Hunt Valley our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: Parent Consent

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent now as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to the classroom teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Fall 2020 Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program- Child Behavior Rating Scale

The Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP)  provides actionable information that will assist teachers, leaders, and parents/guardians in supporting student success in school and to better understand school readiness skills across the state of Virginia. This fall your student will participate in the Child Behavior Rating Scale (CBRS) component of the Virginia Kindergarten readiness program. The CBRS rating scale is used for both self-regulation and social skills and is completed after 3-4 weeks of observation. More information about the assessment can be found on the FCPS Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program Parent Notification webpage.

For questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Reminder for Parents/Guardians about SIS ParentVUE

This year more than ever, SIS ParentVUE (PVUE) is an essential tool for parents/guardians to keep up with their student’s attendance, progress report cards, and more. This will be the first quarter that we have offered a PDF version of the progress report and ES parents/guardians now have the option to “Go Paperless” for all report cards and progress reports. We want to start establishing the PVUE habit early with ES school parents/guardians. At the end of last school year, we reached a high of 80% of FCPS students with at least one parent/guardian with a PVUE account. We want to keep those account numbers and the usage going up so we can rely on it as a communication tool with parents/guardians.

Please access PVUE periodically to check in on your student(s) attendance and to view progress reports at the end of each quarter.  If you have not yet created a PVUE account, please do so by reaching out to the school SIA to provide an activation code. Details on what can be found in PVUE and how to activate a new PVUE account using your activation code can be found here - Student Information System - SIS Parent Account Overview

Tech Support for Parents and Students

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk, effective Monday, August 24. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Parents or guardians can call this number for basic tech support with parent accounts, help with FCPS student devices and technical assistance with other FCPS applications. If help desk staff members are unable to solve the issue, they will enter a support ticket on behalf of the parent/guardian to escalate the issue to the appropriate FCPS team. Parents who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call of their preferred language, and an interpreter will join in on the call.

FCPS has also set up Parent and Student Technology Support portal at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/ to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly. When a support request ticket is entered through the portal, it is auto-routed to the TSSpec at the appropriate site to expedite service.

Curbside Checkout

Curbside Checkout is our way of getting the Hunt Valley ES library books into the hands of readers.  It is completely voluntary and is a service to the students and families of Hunt Valley.

 Three steps:

  1. Pick your book(s).  If you know what you want, put the books on hold in Destiny (the library catalog).  If you need some advice or aren’t quite sure the titles you’re wanting, use the Google Form to get assistance from the librarians.
  2. Pick your time.  Pick a time that works for your family on the SignUp Genius.  If it’s after 3pm on Friday – pick a time on the FOLLOWING Monday.
  3. Pick up your books. Monday, Hunt Valley ES (door 8), between 2pm and 6pm

Have a question?  Please email your librarian at crbartlett@fcps.edu.
