Franklin MS Weekly Update - October 23

Franklin Families and Students,

Good Afternoon!

We hope that you and your family are having a great week. Thank you to our families who were able to join us for our Virtual Parent Coffee on Wednesday afternoon. We had the opportunity to celebrate our successes from the start of the 2020-21 school year, share resources, provide updates on the return to school plan, and answer questions. We look forward to continuing these conversations and connecting with our families!

We welcome our first group of students back to our school building for in-person instruction beginning next week. We will follow strict safety and health protocols to minimize health risks for students and staff. To learn more, visit the FCPS Student Health and Safety Guidance Document here. Thank you to our staff and our families who have been partnering together to make this a successful transition.

During the next week, families in the Franklin community will be receiving updated information from FCPS on the Return to School plans for our students. Franklin MS will host a Return to School Town Hall on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:00 PM. This will be an opportunity to ask questions regarding the FCPS Return to School plan and to learn about what it will look like at FMS. A link will be sent out for the session on Wednesday afternoon and we will share a recording if you are unable to attend.

Please feel free to reach out to me directly at dpwright@fcps.edu at any time if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to support your student and your family. Best wishes for a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

Advanced Academic Programs Update

Due to the ongoing pandemic, adjustments have been made to the Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Level IV screening processes for the 2020-21 school year. Below are some important notes and information:

Fall AAP Screening

  • Fall screening is only for grade students new-to-FCPS since January 2020.
  • Referral Form (emailed to schools before October 30, 2020)
  • Completed (digital) files have to be submitted by November 12, 2020.

If you would like your child to participate in the Fall Screening, please contact your child’s counselor before October 30th.

Looking Ahead to Spring AAP Screening

For more information regarding the Spring screening process, please contact your child’s counselor.

Paperless Report Cards

Families have the opportunity to “Go Paperless” and receive online only report cards. Going paperless for report cards will not impact any other mailings from FCPS. To take advantage of the paperless option, parents/guardians will need to log into ParentVue, then go to “My Account” and select “Go Paperless.” All parents/guardians who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVue account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed report cards. The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all of your associated students, no matter what the school level.

Attendance Procedures

Attendance is taken 5 days a week. If your child will be absent for any part of the day please report to the school through one of the following:

  • Attendance/Tardy Email:  franklinmiddle.attendance@fcps.edu
  • Absence/Tardy Phone Line (recorded message): 703-904-5151
  • Report an absence online

Franklin MS After School Program

Our after-school program had a successful first quarter. A few after-school reminders:

  • Students can find more information about the After-School Program in their grade-level Google Classroom and on the student After-School site.
  • Students should check out the “Clubs by Day” and “Club Descriptions” sheets for club information and schedules.

If you have any questions about the After-School Program, please feel free to contact Mrs. Mollé (cemolle@fcps.edu).
