1. From the Principal's Desk
Dear Members of the Chantilly HS Community:
I hope you had a good week. I have a few updates and some good news to share. First, the good news; along with a select number of other schools in FCPS, Chantilly was recognized at last night’s School Board meeting for winning the Virginia Board of Education Exemplar Performance Award for Continuous Improvement in Chronic Absenteeism. Chantilly staff members work hard to send a message that being in school matters, and I want to recognize them for their efforts. I’m also pleased to share that our first 30 students came back to CHS this week for in-person instruction and are doing great! Special thanks to our Academy Principal, Scott Settar, and other applicable Academy staff for setting up these students for success. As you probably know, we are expecting additional students in ESOL and Category B Special Ed next week. We are also working hard to get ready for the return of all other students that chose in-person instruction. While it’s up to the School Board to identify the exact date, it appears that it will be in late January or early February as long as infection rates stay relatively stable. Finally, I’m pleased to share that the administrative team has finalized needed changes to our master schedule. With a lot of input from teachers and staff, I’m confident that these revisions will help us better meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of staff during virtual learning. Please see below for details.
Have a good weekend,
Scott Poole
Principal
2. New Health and Safety Protocols for Students Returning to CHS
Please be aware that officials from the Fairfax Health Department have been working closely with Fairfax County Public Schools to develop new guidelines and protocols to maximize safety and health. If your student has returned or is returning to school next week, please be aware of the following:
- Student building access during Phased Instruction will be strictly controlled. No entrance is open to student entry except the following entrance:
For CAT B students Door 2
Academy Students Door 5
ELL/ ESOL students: Modular classrooms behind the main building. No access to main building is permitted.
2. Mandated Isolation Room
Students who present with a fever of 100.4 while in school will be immediately moved to an identified isolation room and must be picked up and taken home. Similarly, students who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 will be immediately moved to the isolation room and parents are required to pick the students up and take them home. Pick up will occur at Door 11. Directions will be provided when you are called to get your child. Please do not send your child to school if they have a fever or exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19 as they will be placed into a common isolation room until picked up by a parent.
3. Masks are Mandatory
Students are required to wear a mask. A mask may be provided to a student who arrives without one on a limited basis. Students who refuse to wear a mask will not be permitted to attend class, will have frequent temperature checks, and will be isolated into a monitoring space until the time they are to leave or a parent picks them up. Face to face instruction will be precluded for mask refusal.
3. Yearbooks and Senior Ads

4. Recent Student Successes
This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students. I plan to meet with recognized students each week (virtually) to congratulate them.

Ryder Paley recently transferred to CHS near the end of 1st quarter, which would make anyone understandably anxious about what they missed, how online classes work (or don't work) this semester, and the social landscape of a new school year. Ryder has impressed me with their willingness to face discomfort in really tough circumstances - something a lot of adults really struggle with - and to advocate when they need help. We are glad to have you in class, Ryder! Ms. Angie Myers
- During each English class, Jaeden Persaud models critical thinking and civil discourse as he considers the ideas authors convey in the literature we are reading. His questions and comments have improved us as a class! I am glad he is one of us! Ms. Kimberly Scott
