KG 10.18.2020 Updates

Administration Note

Dear Parents,

We hope your children will enjoy the new morning activities for Mondays! Our teachers have worked hard to prepare educational but fun activities.  They look forward to your child's participation.

Last Thursday, the FCPS School Board met with the FCPS Leadership Team to discuss and determine a plan for bringing back students for in person learning.  Currently, we are beginning with smaller groups that include English Language Learners.  Our youngest learners, including kindergarten and then first and second grade would be next. A timeline was shared but there are many decisions to be made going forward and there may be adjustments. We will continue to update you all with timely and pertinent information regarding our school and your child(ren). We will be reaching out soon with an additional request for all to confirm your selection for in-person or virtual learning or if a new enrollee provide this information for our records.

In the interim, our teachers have been working hard and will continue to provide engaging and high quality instructional experience for our students. We appreciate your support and know this has been challenging for all of us.  We will continue to provide the instructional materials that support the asynchronous learning.

A gentle reminder that we need parents to remit absences or tardies in the online attendance form . This form will email the teacher and the office regarding attendance delays and absences. This will ensure that you won't have to follow up with the office and separately communicate with the teachers. On Monday mornings, we need ALL students to check in at the morning meeting for attendance.

Our library checkout is a success! Please continue to encourage your child to check out the books to read! Students may log into Destiny using their student ID number and password to browse books through the Kent Gardens library catalog. Directions are here and should be followed. Each student can place a maximum of 5 books on hold. Ms. Hershey and Ms. Troncoso will gather books from the library, check them out and place on tables (organized alphabetically) in the front entrance hallway.  Students will receive an email when their books are ready for pick up and parents may pick up (masks please and socially distanced) between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.  Please to not come UNTIL your child's receives an email.  If you are unable to pick up within 5 days, we will return to the library. To return books, we will have a bin outside of the office.

Thanks for your continued support!

Warmly,

Holly McGuigan          Pier McGrath               Tia Hawkins

Progress Reports and ParentVUE

This year more than ever, SIS ParentVUE (PVUE) is an essential tool for parents/guardians to keep up with their student’s attendance, progress report cards, and more. This will be the first quarter that FCPS has offered a PDF version of the progress report and ES parents/guardians now have the option to “Go Paperless” for all report cards and progress reports.

If you have not yet created a PVUE account, we encourage you to do so by reaching out to the our school SIA, Tracy Dean, tadean@fcps.edu to provide an activation code. Details on what can be found in PVUE and how to activate a new PVUE account using your activation code can be found here - Student Information System - SIS Parent Account Overview

Positivity Character Strength - Forgiveness

This week, our positivity character strength is forgiveness. Forgiveness is the ability to move past being injured, and allow yourself to reconcile with the person who hurt you. Those who demonstrate forgiveness have the ability to move forward after someone has hurt them.

You forgive those who have done wrong. You accept that people make mistakes.

“Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness."                                              ~Marianne Williamson
