Lemon Road Community News 10.16.20

Message from Mrs. Castillo

Nickels 2nd Grade

I hope this finds you finishing a wonderful week - clearly these 2nd graders and Mrs. Norton had a fun morning meeting recently!  Students and teachers continue to remain busy settling into distance learning and we couldn't be more proud of how well everyone is doing.  As you may have heard, some small cohorts of students are beginning to return to schools in person.  FCPS has prioritized getting our youngest learners back in the building first and one class of our preschool students will begin next week.  The School Board and FCPS Leadership team will continue to develop plans for our other students, once those details have been finalized and approved, we will share that information with our community. In the meantime, we will continue to provide a robust and engaging online learning experience for our students.

Lemon Road has bags of students' personal materials left from the 2019 – 2020 school year. We will begin recycling, reusing, and disposing of materials that remain in the building beginning October 26. If you have not picked up your child’s materials, please call the front office and schedule time to pick up their bag!

We appreciate your ongoing support of your student and our school.  As always, please don't hesitate to contact Mr. Birge or me with any questions or concerns you may have.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Friday, October 30: Costume Day

Costume Day

On Friday, October 30, Lemon Road will celebrate the birthdays of students born in October and will show school spirit by wearing their favorite costume!  Parents should collaborate with their room parent to determine how the birthdays will be celebrated in each classroom. While we cannot wait to see everyone’s costumes and spirit wear, costumes must:

  • Be appropriate and follow dress guidelines shared in Student Rights and Responsibilities
  • Contain no blood, gore, or signs of violence
  • Not include play guns, swords, knives or weapons of any type
  • Allow full participation in virtual learning

Positivity Project: Forgiveness

Forgiveness

On Monday, students will begin learning about forgiveness. Forgiveness is the ability to move past being injured, and allow yourself to reconcile with the person who hurt you. Forgiveness can often be seen as a selfless act, but it also carries many benefits for those who practice it. Those who demonstrate forgiveness have the ability to move forward after someone has hurt them. Forgiveness is often rooted in the idea that all people are valuable and worthy of a second chance. Many who forgive have the ability to consider things from another’s perspective.  By forgiving someone, you don’t have to say that what that person did was okay. And, forgiveness is not contingent on the other person apologizing.

Fairfax County LEAP Accounts

LEAP

All students (PreK-12) in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) have LEAP accounts at FCPL. These public library virtual accounts will allow students to check out up to three items at a time for six weeks each (no renewals).

  • A student only needs their name, not a physical library card, to check out materials.
  • LEAP accounts never charge fines or fees.
  • A student can have a LEAP account as well as a standard library account (application online and in library branches). Standard accounts allow users to place holds on materials and access FCPL’s digital resources such as eBooks and databases.

Visit the FCPL page for LEAP to find flyers in Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, and Vietnamese, and English.
