Summer Residential Governor’s School Application Information (10th and 11th grade students)

The Summer Residential Governor's Schools (SRGS) are month-long residential programs for current year tenth- and eleventh-grade gifted students in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Governor’s School is a challenging and enriching Virginia program designed for highly motivated students who are looking for a challenging summer experience.  The selection process is extremely competitive. Most students selected rank in the top 10% of their class and have scored in the 90th percentile on standardized measures of ability or achievement tests. These residential programs run from late June to late July. Only students who are available during that time frame and whose records match these criteria should apply.

Students interested in applying to the 2021 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s (SRGS) programs must complete the academic or the visual and performing arts interest form no later than November 9, 2020. No late applications are accepted.

The Academic Interest Form is available for the Schools for Humanities, Math/Science/Technology, Medicine/Health, Agriculture, Engineering, and Marine Science.

The Visual and Performing Arts Interest Form is available for the dance, instrumental music, theatre, visual art, and vocal music programs.

Additional information about the SRGS programs, application process, and timelines are found online.

Please use the links above for access and info.  Any questions can be directed to Mr. Tim Ready at tjready@fcps.edu.

Action Requested: Help save trees and FCPS $$ on postage by opting in to receive “Paperless” Report Cards (that can be printed through ParentVUE)

Parents/Guardians may opt into “Go Paperless” for report cards by following the below instructions:

  • Parents/Guardians can take advantage of the paperless option, by logging into ParentVUE, then going to “My Account” and selecting "Go Paperless!". This is the only way to keep a paper report card from being generated for students at the secondary level. All parents who share the same address as the student must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option.

Forum: Parenting in the Pandemic

Over 70 percent of kids nationwide have reported struggling with mental health during the pandemic. What's worse, polling shows they're often keeping these issues to themselves. The Langley PTSA is hosting a virtual presentation to help parents help their kids through this pandemic on Thurs, Nov 12 at 12-1 pm.

Featured will be McLean-based psychotherapist Jennifer Weaver, who will provide insight into the range of heightened challenges, including depression, loneliness, lack of motivation, anxiety, and lack of impulse control, that teens are facing during this pandemic. She'll offer guidance on how parents can support them during this difficult time.

Mark your calendars and click here to join the presentation on Nov 12!
