FHES Weekly Update: 10/18/2020

Principals' Message

Happy Sunday, Freedom Hill Families!

Last week at the FCPS School Board meeting, FCPS shared its plan for bringing back larger cohorts of students for in person learning in the coming months. They have prioritized bringing our youngest learners back in the building first, and offered a timeline and plan for the return of students. While some decisions were made, many things are yet to be decided.  The School Board and FCPS Leadership Team will continue to develop plans for the remaining cohorts.  As decisions are made, we will send out additional communication. We anticipate that next week we will be sending out communication to confirm your selection for in-person or virtual learning.

In the meantime, our teachers will continue to diligently plan high quality online learning experiences for our students and appreciate your ongoing support of your child and our school.

Above you will see a preview of our "Harvest Spirit Week", which will take place next week. We look forward to taking part in the autumn fun!

Best wishes for another great week,

Nicholas Zapadka, Principal

Eric Kopacz, Assistant Principal

Positivity Project - Forgiveness

p2

This week we turn our attention to forgiveness. Forgiveness is the ability to move past being injured, and allow yourself to reconcile with the person who hurt you. Forgiveness can often be seen as a selfless act, but it also carries many benefits for those who practice it. Those who demonstrate forgiveness have the ability to move forward after someone has hurt them. Forgiveness is often rooted in the idea that all people are valuable and worthy of a second chance. Many who forgive have the ability to consider things from another’s perspective.

Consider Paperless Progress Reports

paper

The “Go Paperless” option is now available to all ES parents to allow them to only receive online progress reports starting the first quarter of SY 20/21. This will not impact any other mailings from FCPS other than the progress reports for ES students and report cards. To take advantage of the paperless options, parents and/or guardians will need to log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless" All parents and/or guardians who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed progress reports. The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all their associated students, no matter what school level. If the associated parent and/or guardian has already selected “Go Paperless” for their secondary student, the option will now apply to any ES siblings as well.
