Open Enrollment for employees began yesterday and will continue through Friday, November 6. This is your annual opportunity to enroll and/or make changes to your medical, dental, and/or flexible spending account (FSA) benefits for the upcoming year. This year’s Open Enrollment will be virtual with various resources posted online, and opportunities for employees to chat with Office of Benefit Services staff and vendors. FCPS CARES is an opportunity for staff, parents, students, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others. Every month, a nominated employee from each region and Central Offices will be recognized as an FCPS CARES of the Month recipient. We’ll share their names in Employee News, and they will also have access to a new FCPS CARES banner for their profile photo in Outlook. Watch this video to learn more about FCPS CARES. We also encourage you to acknowledge a staff member who has gone above and beyond.
The Region 2 transportation team joined Pine Spring ES staff to organize book buses. The buses delivered independent reading books to students throughout the community, while walkers and bikers picked up their books at the school. Watch the video.

Travel the globe while building healthy habits with the virtual Worldwide Wellness Challenge! It's free and will run from Monday, November 2, through Sunday, December 13. Participants will earn points and travel across the world by logging their physical activity, active relaxation, and produce servings. Registration begins Monday, October 19. #OurFCPS Faces: Nonye Oladimeji
Nonye Oladimeji is a life-long learner, who seeks to make a positive impact on students and the greater FCPS community. Nonye has been with FCPS for 26 years! She is currently the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) coordinator and the advanced academic resource teacher at Glasgow MS. She began her career at Oakton ES as a special education instructional assistant, while pursuing a master’s degree in special education. After two years, Nonye became a special education teacher at Hughes MS.
The IBMYP in Fairfax County is a whole-school program for students in grades 6-10. All students in the program take part in a curricular framework that focuses on the connections between traditional subjects and the real world application as well as becoming critical and reflective thinkers.
As Glasgow’s IBMYP coordinator, Nonye works closely with administrators and teachers to oversee the implementation of the program in all content areas. Some of her tasks include reviewing current state and district educational standards to inform the ongoing development of the program, and collaborating with school administrators, instructional leaders, and other partners as needed.
As an advanced academic resource teacher, Nonye handles multiple tasks including helping identify students for the Advanced Academic Program (AAP), working with teachers to ensure student access to AAP resources, and communicating regularly with parents, teachers, and students regarding program changes or new requirements.
Acting Principal Katie Madigan says, “Glasgow is lucky to call Dr. Nonye Oladimeji our own. She serves a unique role as both IB Coordinator and AAP coordinator. She truly understands the whole child and brings the global perspective to all we do in ensuring that all students learn at high levels."
Recently, a Glasgow parent expressed appreciation for Nonye in an FCPS Cares submission:
“Dr. Nonye Oladimeji ("Dr. O.", Glasgow's IB Coordination Teacher) has gone above and beyond for my child and our family to make her (and us) feel at ease about coming into the school in the middle of a pandemic […]. We've lived throughout Virginia and abroad, and Dr. O. stands out as an educator who truly cares and is one of the best school staff I've engaged with in Fairfax County, Arlington County, and even overseas. Dr. O. stands out as an educator, mentor, mother, and is just a good human being. Shout out to Glasgow for hiring her and all of the talented, dedicated staff at Glasgow and beyond who truly care for the students, especially during these difficult times. Thank you.”
When Nonye is not teaching or learning, she volunteers weekly at a local shelter and nursing home. She adds, “I have volunteered at the Bailey’s Shelter for the past nine years and at Embry Rucker Shelter for the past 22 years.”
Nonye, thank you for your dedication to serving our students and the greater Fairfax community.
With the presidential election quickly approaching, please take a moment to review FCPS policies regarding conduct around political campaigns. Two important reminders include:
- Employees are encouraged to exercise their constitutional rights to participate in political activity–e.g. campaigning, running for office, registering voters, displaying and distributing political materials–but should do so on their own time or by taking leave.
- Instructional personnel may discuss political issues with students as part of the instructional program, following FCPS guidelines to insure balanced and critical review of issues.
