INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY – STUDENT HOLIDAY 10/12/2020
In July 2020, the FCPS School Board voted to rename Columbus Day as Indigenous People’s Day. School Board Member Melanie Meren connected this change to our division’s commitment to equity: “As a community that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and history, Fairfax County Public Schools should pivot from acknowledging Columbus Day, and instead celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day.”
