Dear Shrevewood Community,
Thank you for all of your patience and grace as we have begun the school year with a strong virtual start. We have had excellent “attendance” … many days, 95-100% of our 735 students are online! We have had many questions from parents/caregivers wondering how they (and older siblings) can support their child during virtual learning. Every few weeks, we will compile a few tips and suggestions that we hope you will find helpful.
At this point in the year, teachers have established routines and positive learning communities. We will now be teaching more content and engaging students in more academic rigor. We very much appreciate your support from home and think these tips will help you and your child.
Tip #1: Encourage independence- In order for your child’s teacher to know what he/she knows and needs, we need to know that he/she is attempting the work independently. Tip #2: Please allow children to make mistakes- This is how our brains grow! If older siblings or parents are giving students the right answers all the time, children’s brains aren’t growing! Tip #3: Independence now translates to independence when we return- Teachers are working to create virtual classrooms that will allow for students to be successful when they return and we know how important it is for students to learn to try things on their own in a classroom setting.
We also ask that you communicate with your child’s teacher via email or the class communication tool that is used – not in the chat during class time. Please know he/she will respond to your requests and questions as soon as they can within 24-48 hours. Our teachers need your continued grace and compassion so they can do the very best job for your children…and we promise to give you our grace and compassion as you work to navigate virtual schooling from home.
Thank you for your support and kindness.
Remember at Shrevewood we are about Family, Excellence and Relationships!

P.S. Thank you to all of you who have sent our teachers positive notes and emails over the last few weeks. You have NO IDEA how much those notes and words mean and they are often exactly what the teacher needs to get through the day!
