From the PTA: Brookfield Talent!

In Partnership with Not Just Dance

Brookfield Talent! is a VIRTUAL showcase of talent acts from our Brookfield families. It’s a way for our students and families to connect and entertain each other from home.

How to Participate: Show us your talent!

Make a video of yourself performing a special talent (must be a maximum length of 2 minutes). Some examples include: singing, dancing, magic, comedy routine, dramatic monologue, juggling, gymnastics, reciting poetry, or playing an instrument.

Only Brookfield Students and siblings may participate. Talent acts will receive a gift for performing. Complete this form and send your video to pta.brookfield@gmail.com by October 31st: www.brookfieldpta.org/talent

Watch the show! November 13th at 6:30 p.m. Gather at home and watch the performers through Blackboard Collaborate. A link to watch will be sent from the school.

4-6 Curbside Library Book Pickup on Wednesday Oct 14 from 3-6 pm.

Our next Curbside Library Book Pickup for Grades 4-6 is on Wednesday. Oct 14, between 3 pm and 6 pm. Wear your mask and come to Brookfield’s Kiss n Ride Door to get library books for your children. Cars and walkers are welcome. Please bring back your library books from last time.

 Here’s how we do it:

  •  We’ll have books already checked out to your child when you get here.
  • You’ll also get a bookmark with your child’s name on it with a list of books we know kids like. Check off anything your child might want next time. You can write in a request too.
  • Return the books and bookmark on Wednesday, Oct 28, between 3 pm and 6 pm.

We’ll do the same process for Grades K-3 on Wednesday Oct 21.

Advanced Academic Conversations

Are you interested in learning more about the variety of opportunities available for your child related to Advanced Academics? Do you have questions about the level of service or the application process? Mrs. Reed, the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, wants to answer these questions and more!

To begin, please view these videos whenever it is convenient for your schedule.

As you watch these presentations, note your questions and bring them to Mrs. Reed at the Advanced Academic Office Hours scheduled later this month. Interpreters will be available for Spanish speaking families.

Nurturing Relationships Parenting Class

The Fairfax County Department of Family Services Parenting Program offers virtual parenting classes for parents with children between the ages of 5-11. The course shares ways to help families build healthy, nurturing relationships. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the class will be offered via ZOOM, a free web-based conferencing tool. This class is held Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., beginning October 13, 2020.

Classroom Visitor Guidelines

While FCPS is engaged in virtual learning, all teachers and staff should not allow third party visitors into online lessons without prior approval from the principal and with advance notice. This is similar to school rules during in-person schooling whereby visitors, including parents, would not physically come to classrooms without the aforementioned approval and scheduling. This is to protect the confidentiality of all students and to ensure that the learning environment is not disrupted.

That being said, we appreciate that parents have been so helpful to their children as they learn from home. Very few young children are independent in using the technology tools or completing many assignments. We know that without parent help, we would have significantly greater challenges. Thank you. In alignment with the FCPS guidelines, we expect that parents will not intentionally or actively enter their voice or commentary into live lessons with groups of students. This would be considered an intrusion into the class. If any specific guidance is needed on how to support your children at home and not interfere in the learning of others, your child’s teacher will advise. Thanks for your attention to this point as we work together to deliver a new, unprecedented online program while maintaining standards.
