Digital Resources at Fairhill-Parent Consent Form

Fairhill will be using a variety of digital resources and tools this year, and parent permission is required for some of these applications. FCPS is committed to using  innovative tools that positively impact learning while ensuring student privacy and safety.

The list of resources for Fairhill can be found  on the Digital Resources at Fairhill Webpage. This page outlines the tools with links to more information, as well as the parent consent form.

Please complete the parent consent form so that our teachers know if permission has been provided for these tools to be used with your child.

Square 1 Art

Even though we are learning remotely, the Square 1 Art program must go on!  The team at Square 1 Art has redesigned their program to operate in our new digital world.  This year, our students will create their masterpieces at home on their own time using any materials they choose (crayons, paints, construction paper, etc).  Once complete, parents will follow the instructions on the Square 1 site to prepare the art, photograph it and upload it to the Square 1 site.  After the art has been uploaded, families can shop from the online catalog of keepsakes.  Orders will be shipped directly to the students' houses instead of the school.

Students may create their art on any piece of 8x8 paper.  They do not need to use the Square 1 template. For more tips on how to make the best art possible, click here

Looking for some support with your project?  Join Ms. Flo's art master class and she will help your artist with their project.

Please note the deadlines for participating in the program:

Upload art by 10/27/2020

Order keepsakes by 11/25/2020

Details on how to participate in the digital Square 1 Art program are below.  From the site, you will find tips on creating pieces that will translate nicely to keepsakes and instructions for uploading the artwork.  If you have any questions, you can contact Square 1 Art Customer Care (contact below) or email fairhilles@gmail.com.

How to Participate

1.  Create art (see tips here)

2.  Photograph and upload art

Should I Worry about Extra Screen Time for My Child?

Contact teachers
about educational online and offline activities your child should do.The American Academy of Pediatrics through HealthyChildren.org offers tips to help families cope during the COVID-19 Pandemic.  With virtual learning and most other activities now online, children’s screen media time has increased exponentially.  Screen time limits are still important. Yet, the increase is understandable under these stressful circumstances. Here are some ways to help keep media use positive and helpful:

  • Use social media for good. Try service learning and civic activities.
  • Use media for social connection. Social distancing can be isolating. Check in with your family and friends. Try video chats or social media to stay in touch.
  • Choose quality content and use trusted sources to find it. The Fairfax County Government’s Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) is offering NCS Connects. NCS Connects offers virtual programs to include Adapted Virtual Learning, Arts & Culture, Health & Wellness, Mindfulness, Prevention, STEAM and Parent Resources.
  • Use media together. Monitor what your children are seeing online and follow what your children are learning.
  • Take your child (virtually) to work. Are you working from home? Use this time as a chance to show your child a part of your world. Encouraging imaginative “work" play may be a way to apply “take your child to work day" without ever leaving home!
  • Limits are still important. As always, technology use should not replace time for needed sleep, physical activity, reading, or family connection. Plan how much time children can play video games online with friends, and where their devices will charge at night.

For more information go to NCS Connects

New for this fall:  breakfast and lunch meals for Saturdays will be distributed at all sites and bus routes each Friday.
