#OurFCPS Faces: Sandra Robles

Sandra Robles, Food Services Manager, Laurel Hill ES

Sandra Robles, Food Services kitchen manager at Laurel Hill ES, serves up Grab and Go meals with a side of friendliness. She tries to live her best life every day, and says if she can help someone in the process, that’s a gift to her.

Sandra joined FCPS in 2009 at Bonnie Brae ES. She moved to Fort Hunt ES, then landed at Laurel Hill in 2014. As kitchen manager, Sandra organizes, orders, handles production, cooks, serves, trains new cafeteria employees, and helps students as needed. Her supervisor Sean Pettit says, “In the five years that Sandra has been at Laurel Hill, she has created a strong relationship with her staff, administration, and students. She greets every person that comes through her cafeteria with a smile, and she makes sure that anyone who comes into Laurel Hill leaves with a positive attitude. Sandra also helps to train future Managers in Training (MIT’s) to make sure that they also carry on the customer service skills that she shows on a daily basis.”

Since the health crisis, Sandra has been delivering meals to students with the Grab and Go meal distribution program. She loves welcoming the students every morning. She adds, "Before the pandemic, I was very comfortable working at LHES, and during this past month, I went out to provide meals for everyone who was in need and that made me realize that there’s always something you can do for other people. And I felt so lucky to be part of FCPS because not only do I have a job, I also can help my community.”

Bus driver Melissa Wike praised Sandra in a recent FCPS Cares submission: “I had the opportunity to work with Sandra for a week this summer doing Grab and Go food delivery. While I only drove this route for a week, Sandra had been working during the whole shutdown period since March. [...] In addition to her positive, helpful attitude with me, Sandra was very professional. She worked efficiently, observing all safety measures. [...] She seemed to know every person, many by name, who came to our bus, and they seemed genuinely happy to see her every day. I was happy and proud to work with Sandra. She is just the type of employee you want as the face of FCPS.”

When Sandra is not working, she enjoys listening to music, dancing, or watching a good movie.

Thank you, Sandra, for being the perfect example of Caring Culture at FCPS!
