Message from the Principal

Principal Theresa Khuluki

Dear Wolftrap families,

I have been receiving many questions regarding when Wolftrap students will return to in-person learning. The decision and timelines for  FCPS Operation Level 3 (hybrid learning) will be made by our superintendent and our School Board. I ask that you keep in mind that Dr. Grove and I are afforded the same information as you. In the meantime, our intention is to continue to support our teachers, students, and families with virtual learning, and to plan responsibly for a transition as soon as we are told to do so. We know that the day is long for some of our youngest students. Please continue to reach out to our counselors (Ms. Johnson and Ms. May) if you would like to discuss strategies or accommodations to support your child.

Sincerely,
Teresa Khuluki

Technology Reminder

Please remember that FCPS computers need to be restarted at least 3 times a week to receive updates from FCPS. In addition, please make sure you are not leaving the computer on all the time as this will overheat the computer and damage the hard drive.

Grab and Go Meals

Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) continues to update times and locations for grab and go meals posted on the website. Grab and go meals are available to ALL students. In addition, FNS will offer breakfast and lunch meals for Saturday during distribution on Fridays. Food distribution locations and times are posted and updated frequently on the website:  https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/food

“Go Paperless” Progress Report Option Now Available

The “Go Paperless” option is now available to all ES parents to allow you to only receive online progress reports starting the first quarter of SY 20/21. This will not impact any other mailings from FCPS other than the progress reports for ES students and report cards for secondary students. To take advantage of the paperless options, parents and/or guardians will need to log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless" All parents and/or guardians who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed progress reports. The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all their associated students, no matter what school level. If the associated parent and/or guardian has already selected “Go Paperless” for their secondary student, the option will now apply to any ES siblings as well.

Fall 2020 Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program- Child Behavior Rating Scale

The Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP)  provides actionable information that will assist teachers, leaders, and parents/guardians in supporting student success in school and to better understand school readiness skills across the state of Virginia. This fall, kindergarteners will participate in the Child Behavior Rating Scale (CBRS) component of the Virginia Kindergarten readiness program. The CBRS rating scale is used for both self-regulation and social skills and is completed after 3-4 weeks of observation. More information about the assessment can be found on the FCPS Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program Parent Notification webpage.

Kindergarten teachers will be sending a notification of testing to Kindergarten families. This letter and additional information can be found on the link above. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher or to Dr. Grove.

Music in Grades 4-6

This year FCPS is allowing students to take band or strings instead of general music.  As a result, please know that if your child takes band of strings, your child’s instrumental teacher will enter grades for band or strings standards. General music standards will be left blank on the progress report.

Walk to School Day

October 7 is Walk to School Day! Participants are encouraged to walk in their neighborhoods early in the morning before school, during a break time during the day, or in the evening. You can learn more and register your participation here.

Reminders: Digital Resources Consent Form, Opt-Out Forms

If you have not already completed the Digital Resources Consent Form, please take a moment to do so now here. It is important that we have this form completed for every child.

Please also submit any opt out forms, emergency care forms, or other beginning of the year forms as soon as possible. All relevant information can be found here.

Wofltrap PTA
Random Acts of Kindness

Starting today, Monday Oct 5, the PTA will be running a series called Random Act of Kindness through December. As Aesop said, "no act of kindness however small is ever wasted". We challenge your student to conduct random acts of kindness each week. Every Monday the PTA will post on our Facebook page one random act. Perform seven (7) random acts of kindness from now to December 2, the PTA has kindness to share in return! The acts are as simple as saying 'Hi', donating food or items to those in need, or a simple letter. Track your Random Acts of Kindness with this handy form here. We would love to see pictures of a few of your acts of kindness, so if possible, post a picture of you performing an act of kindness to Facebook.

You may say "Oh no, I may not get to this week's Random Act of Kindness. What do I do?" Never fear, all Random Acts of Kindness challenges will be posted on our PTA website here. You can always catch up! Have an adult vouch for you completing each challenge and you are good to go. In December, we will coordinate a distribution of kindness back to our students for their kindness. More to come on time and location!

October, Week 5-9 Random Act of Kindness: Thank a teacher! And don't forget your specials and aides. Your thank you can be an email, a letter, a drawn picture. Let's show our teachers how much we appreciate their hard work."
