Sangster News You Choose
A Message from Ms. Jankovich
Greetings Sangster! By now you have heard the news that Mrs. Reddel, our Sangster principal, has been promoted to Executive Principal of Region 4. While we are excited for her as she begins this new chapter, we are going to miss her dearly. Over the next several weeks I am thrilled to carry on her leadership and dedication to the Sangster community in my role as Acting Principal of Sangster ES. I often say that “Sangster is like a second home to me” for good reason.
While I have been a classroom teacher in both my home state of Pennsylvania and Maryland, I have proudly spent the last 18 years of my educational career at Sangster as a classroom teacher and as an Assistant Principal. Jen Redford, Assistant Principal, and I both know the Sangster students and community well and are dedicated to working alongside you every step of the way. Our teachers and staff are committed to building virtual relationships with students while continuing the planning and delivery of strong virtual lessons. We are truly all in this together!
The virtual setting is challenging. We hear you and know how hard every student, teacher, and parent are working. Please remember to set realistic goals for yourself and your child. We know that everyone in your household has likely felt and experienced the effects COVID-19 has had on our nation, as well as our school system. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Allison Jankovich

Teacher-Parent Check-In Phone Calls
Since we are beginning the school year 100% virtually, Sangster teachers are beginning to make short (5-10 minute) check-in phone calls with parents every two weeks. The purpose is to have a quick and personal conversation about your child as we are building relationships with you and your child(ren). Many of our teachers are beginning to schedule the calls. Since teachers are making these calls to every parent, you will not be receiving interim reports this quarter.

Elementary Progress Reports - Go Paperless
The “Go Paperless” option is now available to all elementary school parents to allow parents to only receive online progress reports starting the first quarter of School Year 2020-21. Choosing this option will not impact any mailings from FCPS other than the progress reports for elementary school students and report cards for secondary students.
To take advantage of the paperless options, parents and/or guardians must log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless". All parents and/or guardians who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed progress reports.
The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all associated students, no matter what school level. If the associated parent and/or guardian has already selected “Go Paperless” for their secondary student, the option will now apply to any elementary school siblings as well.
If you do not have a ParentVue Account, please contact our Registrar, Marian Hoelscher, at mthoelscher@fcps.edu.

Positivity Project
This year, Sangster will continue implementing the Positivity Project (P2). P2 is dedicated to empowering America’s youth to build strong relationships and to understand, appreciate, and exemplify the character strengths in us all. Every 1-2 weeks, students learn about a new character strength.
It is easier than ever for Sangster families to access P2 resources this year! The site P2 For Families is available for connecting P2 to your home and you can learn more about the site here. Many of the slides are password protected and the password is P2 (case-sensitive).

Positivity Project - Week of September 27
This week’s character strength is Teamwork. Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement. Citizenship is a willingness to work towards the common good as opposed to one’s own self-interest. Those with strengths in teamwork and citizenship often work to help all group members find success. These individuals are willing to commit time and resources to further group goals and help move toward the greater good.
Next week’s character strength: Open-Mindedness
