Announcement from Ms. Reddel

Dear Sangster Families,

Six years ago, in July 2014, my husband and I moved back to Fairfax, Virginia from Denver, Colorado.   I was so excited and proud to be named Principal at Sangster Elementary, the same community where I grew up as a Lake Braddock Secondary School graduate and where my mom still lives. Therefore, it is with mixed emotions I share with you that after these memorable years as Principal at Sangster Elementary, I will become an Executive Principal for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Region 4, effective October 5, 2020.   I’ve served as Principal for the past 15 years in three different schools as well as previous roles in district-level leadership.   The Executive Principal position is an exciting opportunity for me to utilize my varied experiences and make a positive contribution impacting the larger FCPS community.

Sangster has a special place in my heart.  It is more than a building.  It’s a place where your children come to think, come to learn, and come to care and build relationships.  It’s a place where lessons and experiences about community, friendship, acceptance, inclusion, exploration, discovery, and joy occur daily.  These experiences often have a far greater impact than some lessons learned for a state SOL test.

I am proud of Sangster’s talented educators and dedicated faculty. It’s been an honor and privilege to work side by side with them. This is the staff you want for your children.  Sangster is committed to implementing the concept of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) with an emphasis on establishing a collaborative teaching culture.  Year after year they have demonstrated a “do whatever it takes” attitude by taking care of their students and each other.   As a result, the possibilities of what our Sangster students have and will continue to accomplish are limitless.  I appreciate working in this community of parents and teachers who have high expectations for quality education.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has a rigorous process for selecting new principals.  Mr. Jay Pearson, FCPS Region 4 Assistant Superintendent, will be working with you to fill the principal position. I am confident that your new principal will appreciate the strong sense of community, caring culture, and rigor of instruction at Sangster Elementary.

Thanks to all of you for your contributions big and small and for memories that will last a lifetime.   It has been an honor working with you and your children.  In the spirit of Sangster’s continuing partnership with The Positivity Project, please take good care of yourselves and each other.  #OtherPeopleMatter.

Sincerely,

Lisa M. Reddel
