BTSN

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

Another great week of learning at Justice. Our teachers are working overtime to ensure that students are engaged in course content. On Tuesday we will hold our annual Back to School Night. It will look a little different but faculty and staff are excited to welcome families into our virtual classrooms. By now, you should have received an email invitation with class links. Please see below for detailed information.

Wednesday, we will be welcoming many of our seniors for SATs.  It has been a long time since we have seen that many students in our building, and we have a plan in place that requires a health screening and social distancing.

As a reminder, we are asking parents to complete the Digital Resources Consent Form.  Please find more information and the link below.  It is very important that we have this form completed as soon as possible.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me or any member of our admin team if you have any questions.

Justice Virtual Back to School Night

Tuesday, September 22, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

All parents and guardians are invited to attend our virtual Back to School Night (BTSN) on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. This year, the event will be held via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU).

Student Schedules with Class Links - Enrolling parents/guardians and students will receive an emailed copy of their BTSN schedule from Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal. The email will contain individual links for each of your student’s classes, which will allow you to access each teacher’s class at the scheduled time; see schedule below. In order to maintain the security of these classes, please do not share these links with anyone else. They are different from your student’s normal classroom links and will become active on Back to School Night.

BTSN Google Site - Prior to the start of the session, we encourage parents/guardians to view our pre-BTSN activities at our BTSN Google Site.

Classroom Visits on BTSN – Please use Google Chrome to access BBCU sessions. When entering rooms on BTSN, please use your full name to join the session. If needed, students are welcome to attend with their parents/guardians to serve as interpreters. If you are unable to attend, we plan to share the recordings so that you can access sessions after BTSN.

Student Rights and Responsiblities

Parent/Guardian Acknowledgement

The Student Rights and Responsibilities document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable and supportive school environment. We ask that you use this document as a framework for discussing these expectations with your child or teen so that he or she is well prepared for success when the school year begins. You will also find that this publication includes information that you may need throughout the school year, including contact numbers and other resources.

Parents and guardians, please review the Student Rights and Responsibilities and related resources at www.fcps.edu/srr. After reviewing the information, please help us by filling out the fill out the SR&R Parent Acknowledgement Form. The form must be filled out per student

Senior Portraits

This year certainly looks different than those in the past. Similarly, senior portraits will look a bit different. This year we will not be assigning an appointment time to each senior. Due to safety concerns and the need to limit the number of students photographed each day, seniors will be required to go online to prestigeportraits.com to select and confirm their appointment times. You can also call the Lifetouch Customer Service team at 800-445-1189 to confirm an appointment.

Seniors will receive appointment cards in the mail to the address on file. The appointment cards will have a code unique to each student.  The cards direct students to go online to confirm their appointment using that code. We will not be accepting any walk-ups this year so everyone must confirm online.

Unfortunately, the no-charge yearbook sitting is not listed as an option in the online system. However, students wanting the no-charge yearbook sitting can select the Basic sitting level online and will not need to pay the sitting fee.  The system will hold their appointment and they can simply advise the team when they arrive for their session that they want the no-charge sitting.

The senior portrait days are as follows:

Saturday, October 10thfrom 8:30am – 4:00pm

Saturday, October 17th from 8:30am – 4:00pm

Saturday, November 7th from 8:30 – 4:00pm

Monday, November 9th from 8:30 – 4:00 pm

November 10th- 13th (Tues-Friday) from 3:00pm – 9:00 pm

*If students are unable to be photographed during these dates & times, they can call Lifetouch Customer Service at 800-445-1189 and schedule a private sitting at their VA studio located in Annandale.

Want your picture in the yearbook?

This school year is going to be different. We all know this.

We want to preserve as much as we can for our students and that includes the yearbook. This will be a keepsake to be enjoyed for years to come.

We need you!

Please send us pictures of your students and their friends! We will be asking for pictures representing a different topic, from pets to pajamas and everything in between.

Here’s how:

  1. Email your stories and pictures to justicehighyearbook@gmail.com
  2.  Upload the pictures yourself! On a browser: visit www.HJeShare.com and enter school code #4118.
    1. Enter your information, browse and select images from your computer, enter a description, and upload!
    2. On your phone: download the HJeSHARE app from your app store. Enter the school code #4118. Fill in your information to create an account. Upload photos directly from your phone!
  3. Purchase and create a Senior Ad! Go to www.yearbookordercenter.com, school code #4118. Click “Buy a Yearbook Ad” to begin the process. You will be asked to find your student from the school list or you can add your student’s information yourself. You will then be able to choose the ad design, upload your images and type your message. Once you have finished, you will have the opportunity to proof your ad before you pay and submit the ad for production.

Parent Question Corner

Last week's families submitted the following questions. Thank you for your questions.

  1. How is Driver Ed. being handled? I have a student in grade 10. Answer: Each tenth grade PE teacher will be teaching a “quarter” of Driver Ed, either in the 2nd or 3rd quarter. Although, the driver quarter will last longer then a traditional quarter due the state requirement for synchronous time in class. Please reach out your child’s teacher for specifics. We are hosting PSTD nights monthly. First one is Wednesday, September 23rd.

Please continue to submit general questions. We will share answers in our upcoming News You Choose Newsletter. You can find the Google Form here. If you have student specific questions, please feel free to reach out to any of our administrators. We are happy to help

Consent for Digital Resources

At Justice High School, our teachers will use a variety of powerful digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. Without consent, teachers will need to plan additional lessons or deviate from a useful application altogether. You can find our school’s list of the resources here: https://justicehs.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources

Please follow this link to indicate whether or not your student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval.

Thank you for your attention to this important component of distance learning and support of our teachers!

Family Life Education

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.  If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms will be included in your child’s back-to-school/orientation packets and are available online for Elementary (K-6) https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-school-academics-k-6/elementary-family-life-education , Middle School (7-8) https://www.fcps.edu/academics/middle-school-academics-7-8/family-life-education-fle, and High School (9-12) https://www.fcps.edu/academics/high-school-academics-9-12/family-life-education-fle.  Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school prior to Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6) , Middle School (7-8) , and High School (9-12). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) Parent View https://fcps.blackboard.com/.  Account information is available at your local school or online at http://www.fcps.edu/is/instructionaltechnology/247help/parents.shtml.  Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the Fairfax County Regional Library in the City of Fairfax (this location does not have media).  Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.
