West Potomac Weekly News

Happy Friday Wolverines!

Another great week is in the books!  Just a few updates/reminders regarding asynchronous Mondays.  Teachers have and will weekly, assigned independent work on yesterday (Thursdays) and today (Fridays).  This will give students several days to complete the assignments which will ALL be due at 11:59 pm on Monday.  Please feel free to reach out to teachers with any questions.  Again, this is new for all, we need to give grace and not grief to our students and staff as we navigate this journey.  Some students may be required to attend (log in online) an intervention in the morning on Monday.  Those students would have been told to do so individually by their teachers.

Gradebooks Live in SIS

Gradebooks went live on yesterday.  At this point, you will likely not have many grades.  Remember that teachers have only seen their students a total of 4 times as of today.  We have been intentional in taking these 4 opportunities to build relationships/community, set expectations/routines and to begin to assess student academic needs.  Please take a moment to review this Rolling Gradebook Overview found on our WP return to school page.

Asynchronous (offline) on Sept. 23rd

On September 23rd SAT School Day for seniors, ALL STUDENTS will be asynchronous on that day. Teachers will post assignments that students will work on offline.

Textbook Distribution

We will begin distributing textbooks and supplies to students starting next week.  Not all students will need to pick up textbooks or supplies.  We will message parents/students via eNotify no later than Tuesday, IF they need to come to school and pick up supplies.  There will be four days of DRIVE UP distribution and you will be able to come on any of the days/times that work for your schedules. For planning purposes, these are the dates and times:

9/23       3:30-6:00 pm

9/24       3:30-6:00 pm

9/28       9-11:30 am

9/29       9-11:30 am

Parents, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources

  • At West Potomac our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here https://westpotomachs.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out your child’s administrator if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources, we’ve chosen to use this year.

  • If your student will be unable to attend any of their synchronous class sessions you must notify the Attendance Office at 703-718-2528 or by submitting the online form. Please include the following:
