Monday, Monday!

A reminder - on Mondays, EVERY student must log in to their 3rd period ROCK Block Learning Seminar at 8:45-9:00 for the Check and Connect and to be accounted for attendance. This is the only time on Mondays students must login UNLESS, they received an invitation (via email) from a teacher to participate in Academic Support. After Check and Connect at 8:45, and any Academic Support, students should work on assignments given the previous week and read for at least 30 minutes.

Times are also listed below:

MONDAYS

8:45-9:00 - ALL Students - Required to Login to 3rd period for Check & Connect and Attendance

9:10-10:25 - Academic Support - invitation only (invitations sent via email)

11:10-12:10 - Teacher Office Hours - Links available from the All Students’ Course in Schoology

Paperless Report Card Option

Families have the opportunity to “Go Paperless” and receive online only report cards. Going paperless for report cards will not impact any other mailings from FCPS. To take advantage of the paperless option, parents/guardians will need to log into ParentVue, then go to “My Account” and select “Go Paperless.” All parents/guardians who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVue account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed report cards. The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all of your associated students, no matter what the school level.

Irving MS Enrollment Forms Section Updated

Please take a look at our Enrollment Forms website! If you have not completed and submitted the required and applicable optional forms, please do so as soon as possible so we can make sure we have the most up-to-date information regarding your child.

Food For Neighbors

Food For Neighbors is an all-volunteer organization committed to helping local teens struggling with hunger. Last year, we were able to provide over 1500 weekend snack packs for Springfield area middle and high school students. If your student needs a snack pack (soup/pasta, crackers, granola bar, oatmeal, fruit snack and milk/juice) for the weekend, please email Meg Gollinger at magollinger@fcps.edu.

With your support, we can reach even more students in need as we have over 500 students from the West Springfield pyramid who get a snack pack each week. Participation is as simple as filling a Food For Neighbors Red Bag once every other month and putting it on your porch on our pick up days. We provide the bag, a desired food list, and pick-up date reminder texts. Our next collection is November 7, but sign up now to make sure you have time to get your bag and purchase your food to fill it. If you do not already have a red bag, but would like to donate food for the next collection, please register as a Red Bag Donor today at: https://www.foodforneighbors.org/red-bag-program/

Library News

This week all of the 8th grade English classes visited the Library’s Schoology Course and participated in a live presentation about the various ways that students may obtain books to read at this time when the schools are closed.  We highlighted many of the online resources that provide free ebook and audiobook loans to students.  Have your child show you around the WIMS library’s virtual page.

As we look ahead to expanding the services that we can offer to students, we’d encourage you to take a few minutes to answer our Curbside Pickup Interest Survey.  Please enter a response by September 25th.  Your input will help us plan how best to proceed in planning for the possibility of curbside pickup of Irving library books.

If you have a library book from last year to return, please drop it off at Irving between 8 and 2:00 on weekdays.  On September 24th and 25th, there will be days set aside for students and parents to pick up needed items, such as textbooks.  Library books may also be dropped off on those days.   .

We look forward to working with your students this school year!  --Ms. Monk & Mrs. Gawalt
