1. From the Principal's Desk
Dear Members of the Chantilly HS Community:
I hope you had a good week. As you may already know, on Tuesday the FCPS School Board approved Superintendent Brabrand’s plan to begin bringing students back to school for in-person instruction. While the initial phases will only impact a small number of students, there is a lot to do and CHS leaders have already started getting ready. Please stay tuned for more communication from the school system next week about which students will be coming back and when. In the meantime, we are continuing to try and build on our success and address areas in need of improvement. In particular, we need your help to improve student attendance on Mondays during our Advisory period from 8:10-8:30AM. Since school started, approximately 250-300 students are missing their Advisory period each week. Feedback from students and parents indicates that some are of the belief that Mondays are “free days” with nothing for students to do. This is not the case. Attendance during Advisory counts! We also regard Advisory as an important opportunity for students to stay connected with Chantilly HS. Each week, students view the student-produced Knightly News during Advisory and take part in a lesson related to our work as a partner with the Positivity Project. Also known as P2, the Positivity Project is a character development program developed by two graduates of West Point. Most important, the teachers and staff at Chantilly HS want to check-in with students each and every week to ensure that their social and emotional needs are being met. We know that adolescents like to sleep in and that the morning time slot isn’t ideal. The challenge for us is that all schools in FCPS are required to do intervention on Monday mornings and the schedule needs to be consistent across the school system so that school schedules align when students start coming to school for in-person instruction.
Thanks for your help,
Scott
2. SIS Weekly Progress Reports to Parents Set to Start Monday, October 5
If you have registered for SIS ParentVUE and have a primary email address recorded in ParentVUE, you can receive your student’s Weekly Progress Report via email. For the 2020-21 school year, Weekly Progress Reports are scheduled to begin on Monday, October 5, 2020. This report provides a summary of your student’s grades for the current quarter. To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE account and verify that you have a primary email address within the system. It is listed under the “My Account” tab.
If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports, and click on “Update account.” Once your email is confirmed, return to the “My Account” tab to activate and select your preferences for receiving these reports. Emails will be sent according to your selected preferences. Weekly Progress Reports for all of your middle and high school students will be included in one email. For additional help, refer to the quick reference guide for FCPS parents/guardians.
