Senior Class Meetings

Senior Meeting Update!!

Attention Mount Vernon seniors and families,

Your school counselors are looking forward to facilitating senior lessons about the postsecondary planning process on Monday, September 21, 2020 from 12:30 pm-2:00 pm.  In order to maintain the proper safety and security of our virtual environment we must make a few changes to our previously advertised process.  Each senior will now be invited to their appropriate counselor’s session via a personalized Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU) link.

The classroom links that were initially set up have been deleted and are now inactive.  BBCU links will be emailed to all seniors today, Friday September 18, 2020.  Reminders will be sent to all students again on Monday morning.  Be sure to check your FCPSSchools.net account for these important invitations.

Counselors will be available to meet with students individually for senior meetings.  In addition to Monday’s lessons and individual senior meeting; families are also invited to Senior Night on Monday, October 5, 2020.  Senior night will include information about various postsecondary options as well as a motivational speech from your class administrator Mr. Derek Steele.

Walmart is distributing free school supplies to families in our Mount Vernon Pyramid.  If you would like to participate, please print the flyer and join them Sunday from 1-3 PM.  This event is intended to support the Mount Vernon Pyramid families only, so please do not share this information.

Digital Consent Form

Fairfax County Public Schools uses a variety of resources to support student learning. In cases where FCPS contracts with a vendor to host student information, FCPS requires that the vendor adhere to the security and privacy requirements specified in a confidentiality agreement included in their contracts. FCPS does not have contracts with every instructional tool vendor.  Many valuable instructional tools are governed by Terms of Service (TOS) and include both free and paid tools. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year require parental consent.

Here is where you can find out what tools we are planning on using this year at MVHS. You will need to provide parent consent for each child in your household. Please click this link to do that!

FCPS 24-7 Parent SIS Account

If you do not already have a FCPS 24-7 Parent Sis Account, we encourage you to get one now.  Clicking on this link will take you to the portal to sign up.  In your parent sis account, you will have access to your student’s grades and attendance.  You will have access to update your student’s emergency care card and health information.  On September 2nd your student’s course schedule for the 20-21 school year was made available.  SIS also allows parents access to Blackboard.

Home Internet Access Assistance

FCPS is working to ensure that all FCPS students have internet access at home.  We are transitioning to a new program in partnership with Cox Communications, in which FCPS will pay for Internet service for qualifying families.  Cox’s Connect2Compete program provides low-cost internet to families that meet these qualifications:

  • have at least one child that attends an FCPS school;
  • participate in, or qualify for, one of these government subsidy programs: The National School Lunch Program, SNAP, TANF or Public Housing.
  • have not had Cox standard internet services in the home within the last 90 days.

If your family is in need of Internet service at home so that your student can participate in virtual learning, please contact us to begin the application process.  If you qualify for the program, we will contact you to let you know how to complete the steps to receive your Internet service.  In partnership with Cox, FCPS will provide your Internet service for the school year.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Iris Bradshaw, Parent Liaison and Interpreter via email at Imbradshaw@fcps.edu

Technology Support for Students and Parents

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk, effective Monday, August 24. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Parents or guardians can call this number for basic tech support with parent accounts, help with FCPS student devices and technical assistance with other FCPS applications. If help desk staff members are unable to solve the issue, they will enter a support ticket on behalf of the parent/guardian to escalate the issue to the appropriate FCPS team. Parents who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call of their preferred language, and an interpreter will join in on the call.

FCPS has also set up a Parent and Student Technology Support portal at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/ to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly. When a support request ticket is entered through the portal, it is auto-routed to the TSSpec at the appropriate site to expedite service.
