SCMS After School Program Starts Next Weed

The South County Middle School After School Program is finally here!

The program begins Monday September 21st. Please see the schedule below. The program will operate Monday – Thursday between the hours of 2:30pm – 5:30pm. There will be more programming added as the school year goes on. The SCMS After School Program Schedule is also available on the grade level Google classrooms and the student info site. Students must join the club classrooms to participate in programs.

                                         

The Region 4 schools will be collaborating beginning in October to provide additional programming, these schools include SCMS, Lake Braddock, Robinson, Irving, and Frost. Clubs and activities will be provided by staff from all 5 schools. Any student from those schools are welcomed to participate. I will provide the complete Region 4 schedule at a later date.

SCMS FANTASY FOOTBALL TALK LIVE – Mr. Woodby, Mr. Schneider, Mr. Christ, Mr. McLeod

Wednesday 3:30pm – 4:30 Do you enjoy football!? Do you play fantasy football!? Please join us every Wednesday from 3:30 – 4:30 throughout the 2020 NFL football season as we discuss everything fantasy. It doesn’t matter if you participate in the SCMS Fantasy Football League or in a league with family and friends. We will discuss (Baller Alert! We are a club that recognizes and celebrates our diverse student population. We become more aware of our different cultures and seek to represent the uniqueness of them in equity through artistic expression, student-centered discourse, and by participating in school community events.

Take time to step away from your computer and take your device on the go Tuesday’s and Thursday’s after school from 2:30-3:30. MATH COUNTS PROGRAM – Ms. Yun

Tuesday 3:30pm – 4:30pm

A national middle school mathematics competition that builds problem solving skills and fosters achievement through four levels of fun, and "bee" style contests. In response to COVID-19 this year, there will be more contests and they will be held online. OKAY BOOMER Talk Show – Mr. Woodby, Ms. Pybus, Mr. McCormick, Mr. Schneider, Mr. Christ, Mr. McLeod

Thursday 3:30pm – 4:30pm

This show will be hosted by and All-Star cast to include Mrs. Pybus, Mr. Woodby, Mr. McLeod, Mr. Christ, Mr. McCormack, and Mr. Schneider. Students will have the opportunity to guide the show by submitting topics in a Google form. This is the show where we talk about everything and nothing at the same time. SCIENCE OLYMPIAD – Ms. Stanton, Ms. Carr, Ms. Wesselman

Thursday 3:30pm – 4:30pm

This is a program that allows you to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) topics! No tryouts necessary! Each month there will be a theme that is connected to a popular Science Olympiad subject like Epidemiology or Space. Students will have access to watch interviews with leading experts in the field about careers and workforce. 

Students will also have the option to participate in STEM Showdowns on an individual basis. These are national-level online Science Olympiad tests students take in real time to gauge knowledge against their peers, complete with prizes (a Top 25 National MY SO Medal and computer sticker!).

ART CLUB - Mr. Singh

Monday & Wednesday 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Art club will focus on both traditional drawing and also digital exploration of tools. Students will follow along with Mr. Singh as he teaches how to draw accurately with skill and style. There will be club projects and also free art days where students can decide what they would like to create with the help of Mr. Singh.
