Principal's Message
My Dearest Sleepy Hollow Family,
We hope this newsletter finds you safe and healthy. Please know how excited we are to have our students back in school—even in a virtual setting. Thank you for your grace, patience, and flexibility as we work through these uncharted waters. We all are looking forward to the day when we can return to the physical classrooms inside the walls of our beautiful Sleepy Hollow Elementary—when it is safe to do so. In the meantime, stay encouraged and know that our faculty and staff members look forward to seeing our kids’ faces every day! Please remember that together we can do this, because we are Dolphin Strong!
All the best, Mattie Fallen, Principal

Fall 2020 iReady Assessment
The online iReady assessment (also known as the Universal Screener) provides an initial view of all students’ foundational skills to help teachers identify students who may have challenges in reading or mathematics. Students in grades K-6 will take the iReady reading assessment. Students in grades 1-6 will take the iReady mathematics assessment. More information about the assessment can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener Parent Notification webpage.
This fall, students will take iReady at home instead of at school. Teachers will discuss the assessment with students in advance, including how to log in and what to expect. Resources to help families administer the assessment at home can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener webpage. For questions, please contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Lindsey Covey, Assistant Principal.
Band and Strings
Our 4th and 5th grade students have had the opportunity to learn about the Band and Strings Programs at Sleepy Hollow! Students in 4th and 5th grade also received an email in their fcpsschools.net email account with links to a presentation and registration forms. Students will need an instrument to participate in these programs -- families who applied for the Free & Reduced Lunch program will be eligible to receive an instrument from the county at a discounted rate.
This is a reminder that all registration forms for Band/Strings are due this Friday, September 18th, and must be filled out on a FCPS student laptop or through your student’s fcpsschools.net email account!
Please email Ms. Susens (msusens@fcps.edu) or Dr. Bellinger(mcbellinger@fcps.edu) with any questions you may have.
