First Week!

Dear Woodburn Families,

We have a lot to celebrate as we wrap up our first week of school.  Thank you very much for the ongoing support you provide your child(ren) at home.  It has been fun to see you in the background of your child's screen and hear your words of encouragement as we build our virtual environment. This is truly a team effort and we appreciate all that you are doing to make sure your child is ready for learning.  We could not do this without you!

Below we explain the process for learning on Mondays between 9 and 12pm.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to us or your child's teacher with any questions you might have about our Monday schedule.

We are also excited to have our first spirit week of the year next week.  More details can be found below.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you at our virtual Back to School Night next week!  More information about how to access classroom links for this event will be sent early next week.

Sincerely,

Katy Richman, Principal

Bridget Louder, Assistant Principal

Mondays at Woodburn

Monday Morning Meetings for grades 1-6 will be hosted on a full grade level link in Blackboard 24-7. This is different from their classroom link they received in Gmail. The purpose is to allow for community building among the grade level and for students to work with other adults in that time. Please follow these directions for accessing Monday Morning Meetings!

Kindergarten students will continue to log into their regular link on Mondays!

Spirit Week at Woodburn!

We hope you will join us as we celebrate the second week of school!

Spirit Week

Technology Corner

We wanted to highlight some technology resources that you may find helpful should your students sound, camera, or mic stop working. You can find these by going to the Tips for Student Success FCPS Webpage. This week we wanted to feature sound, camera, and microphone tips!

Parent Technology Help Desk and Online Portal

Thank you to everyone who has used the FCPS help desk during this first week of distance learning! It is our understanding that they have resolved many technical issues for our families. In the case that they are unable to provide a technical solution, your tickets are sent to our school technology team. Should further assistance be required, the tech team will do their best to respond to you within 48 hours of your initial request.

As a reminder, the help desk number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week. Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and an interpreter will join them on the line.

FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly.

Grab and Go Breakfast & Lunch

A bus will be delivering breakfast and lunch to different parts of our community Monday-Friday.  Please see below for the three different stops within our Woodburn community.  Meals are free for all students under the age of 18.

Please let Woodburn know if you are interested by Monday, September 14th.

Complainants may request the removal of, restriction of, or expanded access to such materials.

Principals are required to submit a list of individuals who are available to serve on a Challenged Materials Review Committee, if a departmental committee is needed. Names of teachers, librarians, parents, and high school students are needed.

Our PTA Board Members

Bridget Gannon is Communications Co-chair for 2020-2021. Her daughter Maeve is a rising first grader, and they agree that Never Tease a Weasel by Jean Conder Soule continues to be excellent advice. Bridget is a Woodburn alumnus and likes to spend time swimming with Maeve, hanging out with her dog Fima and visiting art museums.

Tania Nacios is our Enrichment Coordinator. She and her husband have a 2nd grader and Kindergarten at Woodburn. Tania loves to be outside and active with her children and husband. Her favorite thing to do is ride horses. Marguerite Henry was her favorite author growing up because most of her books were about horses.

Ashley and Nate Maines are the chairs for Teacher Appreciation this year. Their sons Drew (5th) and Teddy (2nd) are proud Wildcats and look forward to their younger brother Zach (pre-K) joining them at Woodburn in another year. Ashley enjoys dark chocolate chips, piano, walks with her kids, and learning Spanish on DuoLingo. Nate is an avid baker, aspiring writer, and a lake enthusiast. Their favorite childhood books are A Wrinkle in Time (Nate) and the Narnia series (Ashley).

We are a fun group! If you are interested in joining us, check out open board and committee chairs here.
