Classroom Teachers will be sending information about grade level nights directly to parents. At this time, please save the following dates:
Third Grade – September 16 @ 7:30pm
Kindergarten – September 17 @ 6:30pm
Fourth Grade – September 24 @ 5:00pm
FCPS has received approval to continue providing free breakfast and lunch to all students in Fairfax County! Meals can be picked up every day from 8:00am - 12:30pm at the food sites.
The closest location for our families is Mount Vernon Woods ES, 4015 Fielding St., Alexandria. Bus Stops in the WHES attendance area:
7:20am - Madge Lane and Graves Street
7:45am - Forest Place and Washington Square Apartments

If you have not completed a lunch application, please do so online in English or Spanish as soon as possible. If you want a paper copy you can print one at the following by going to the Food and Nutrition page on the FCPS website. You can also call the school at 703-799-2000 if you need assistance or a paper copy of the application. We ask that you also complete the Consent to Exchange Information (Section 4) of the application. This will allow your family to access other benefits.
One new benefit is that FCPS has made arrangements with COX cable to pay for internet access for families that have a financial need. The approval letter for free and/or reduced lunch will provide the evidence. Please complete the application as the first step in determining if your family can take advantage of this new support.
We need your help! Many of the software applications your child may use this year require parental consent. You will find the list of applications by accessing our school’s adopted digital resources page, on which you will also find the online permission form. To provide your parental consent for each student in your family, please follow this link and complete the information as soon as possible!
The online iReady assessment (also known as the universal screener) provides an initial view of all students’ foundational skills to help teachers identify students who may have challenges in reading or mathematics. Students in grades K-6 will take the iReady reading assessment. Students in grades 1-6 will take the iReady mathematics assessment. This fall, students will take iReady at home instead of at school. It is important students complete the iReady assessment independently so teachers can pinpoint what skills they need to work on with students. Teachers will discuss the assessment with students in advance, including how to log in and what to expect. For questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

It is very important that students attend school every day. FCPS and the Virginia Department of Education have stated student attendance must be recorded every school day.
- Parents should report their student’s absences to school any day students are unable to participate in learning, including on Mondays. They may report the absences by calling the WHES attendance line 703-799-2020 or emailing: https://woodleyhillses.fcps.edu/attendance-form .
- When parents do not report their students’ absences, teachers and school personnel will call to identify the student’s absence reasons.
- An eNotify (electronic) message will be sent to parents about the student absence. Parents should then call the school and provide information about the student absence.

Please review the information in the links above if you do not want your or your child’s information released or to not participate in certain instruction. You do not have to do anything if you do not have any objections. The form is due no later than September 30, 2020. Additional translated versions of the booklet can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/opt-out-forms
If anything changes with your home’s technology resources, please alert your child’s teacher. For example, if your child needs a laptop or your home does not have reliable internet access please let the teacher know. The information will be passed along to our technology team, who will get in touch with you to schedule an appointment. It is so important that we are able to stay in contact with all of our parents and guardians. We also want you to stay current on school news and plans, so your current contact information is essential. This is especially important because we will need to regularly notify our families about program changes, opportunities, distribution of items and school events. Contact information may be updated through Parent View. In addition, we need you to complete the Health Information Form and the Emergency Care form for your child. You can print out these required forms and drop them off when you pick up your child’s supplies.
