Virtual Back to School Night: September 15th, 5pm-9pm

Your student(s) teacher will be sending you a link for the Back to School Night Presentation. Back to School Night allows our parents to receive a curricular overview and understand student expectations for the school year.
We will be recording all sessions and emailing out the recordings to all parents the following day (September 16th). If you have two or more students and their presentations are scheduled at the same time, you can choose which one to attend synchronously and which to attend asynchronously.

Fall 2020 iReady Assessment

The online iReady assessment (also known as the universal screener) provides an initial view of all students’ foundational skills to help teachers identify students who may have challenges in reading or mathematics. Students in grades K-6 will take the iReady reading assessment. Students in grades 1-6 will take the iReady mathematics assessment. More information about the assessment can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener Parent Notification webpage.

This fall, students will take iReady at home instead of at school. Teachers will discuss the assessment with students in advance, including how to log in and what to expect. Resources to help families administer the assessment at home can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener webpage.

Your child’s teacher will be reaching out with testing dates and a parent letter. For any questions about the Universal Screener, please contact your child’s teacher.

SR&R: Student Rights and Responsibilities

Parents and guardians, please review the Student's Rights and Responsibilities and related resources on the FCPS website.  After reviewing the information with your student, please fill out the SR&R Parent Acknowledgement Form. The form must be filled out one time per student.

Attendance - Monday through Friday

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) requires all schools to take attendance during virtual learning this school year. FCPS must take attendance Mondays through Fridays, unless there is a student holiday. Students aged 5-18 must attend school every day school is in session, unless they are excused from school. To support this, parents must report absences to school each time the student may be absent.

Parental Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Hunt Valley our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: Parent Consent

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to the classroom teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Tech Support for Parents and Students

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk, effective Monday, August 24. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Parents or guardians can call this number for basic tech support with parent accounts, help with FCPS student devices and technical assistance with other FCPS applications. If help desk staff members are unable to solve the issue, they will enter a support ticket on behalf of the parent/guardian to escalate the issue to the appropriate FCPS team. Parents who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call of their preferred language, and an interpreter will join in on the call.

FCPS has also set up Parent and Student Technology Support portal at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/ to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly. When a support request ticket is entered through the portal, it is auto-routed to the TSSpec at the appropriate site to expedite service.

Daily attendance will be taken for each class, and the assignments will be graded. Teams will work collaboratively to develop their lesson plans, and to develop consistent formative and summative assessment practices. Students can also expect to engage in independent practice, reading, and exploration outside of the scheduled school day.

Please see the schedule sent from your child's teacher.

Mondays will be available to assist students with the following:

Monday Mornings: Intervention/Enrichment: Select students scheduled for synchronous instruction based on need.
