From the Principal's Desk:

It has been a fantastic first week at Louise Archer ES! We have been so excited to see our students virtually and begin to connect with each other and our new curriculum. Thank you for all you've done behind the scenes to set up a positive, productive learning space at home for your child. It has been a team effort between home and school to make this happen. We were able to distribute over 300 laptops to students and provide a virtual toolkit pickup so everyone was ready to learn on the first day of school.

Each week on Friday, you will receive an email from your child's teacher that contains the schedule for the following week. Please put this in a place that you and your child can reference later. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, our school counselors, front office staff, or tech support team if you need assistance. We are here for you and we want to help! We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday!

Technology Support - Troubleshooting

In an effort to better support our families with common technology problems they may be experiencing, FCPS has launched this help site for families. It provides detailed instructions for troubleshooting audio and video issues, internet issues, and student login issues. This website is a quick place to access troubleshooting guidance, before calling the helpdesk or emailing your child’s teacher. It is the best place to begin solving all of your technology related issues.

Curbside Book Pickup - Coming Soon!

The Louise Archer Library is preparing a process for our students to request books online in our library system to pick up at school. These distribution days will be on Mondays and will be separated into grade levels, K-3 and 4-6. Our first curbside pick up will begin on September 21st for our upper grades. More details will be provided next week to our students and families.

iReady Assessment

The FCPSSchool Board adopted a universal screener assessment for use with all elementary school students in kindergarten through grade 6. The universal screener assessment includes a reading test and a mathematics test. Students in kindergarten will receive screening for reading only. Students in grades 1-6 will receive screening for both mathematics and reading.

The purpose of this assessment is to identify students who may have gaps in foundational literacy and mathematics skills. Based on universal screener results, some students may require an additional assessment to further diagnose the specific learning areas that may need support. The universal screener reading test, together with any necessary follow-up diagnostic assessments, also fulfills state testing expectations for primary students.

The universal screener and any necessary follow-up assessments will be given at the beginning of the school year. Depending on grade level and previous screener performance, students may receive screening again in the winter and/or in the spring. Schools set the specific dates for testing in each class. Your child’s teacher will be sharing the upcoming assessment dates with you soon.

Additional information, including a short video, about the universal screener in FCPS can be found at this webpage.

Reminders

BTSN

Mark your calendar for our virtual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 24th from 5:30-7pm.

Each grade level will present a slideshow and record the presentation so that families who are unable to attend the live session can watch it at their convenience. More information will be available early next week.

Parent Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Louise Archer, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or our SBTS, Chris Jacobs, if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Parent Technology Help Desk

In order to support families who are working with their children during distance learning, Fairfax County Public Schools now has a Parent Technology Help Desk. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7am to 11pm, seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent's behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.
