Terragram

Tiger Families,

We did it!  Day one is complete! We wanted to thank you for your patience, your excitement and support. Today was a very big day for all of us! There were a few technology issues first thing in the morning and a couple slow spots with google in the middle of the day but for the most part, the day was a huge success. We are also hearing from students and families that it is a long day for children. We are asking that you are patient with our teachers as they work to build stamina with their classes. The last thing we want is to overwhelm children in these first few days so we ask for your patience and flexibility as we get routines and brain breaks built in.

We are on this (crazy) journey together and we will continue to ask for your grace and compassion and you can expect that from us, as well.  Please reach out if you need anything. Thank you for your partnership.  We are #TerrasetTogether and #TerrasetStrong!

(If you feel inclined, please share your first day pictures on the Terraset Facebook page with the above hashtags and #FirstDayFairfax).

Kindly,

Ms. Trout and Mr. Ickowski

School Buses Supporting the Food Delivery and Virtual Learning Programs

Transportation Services

The Office of Transportation Services is supporting the food delivery program for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).

All FCPS students (regardless of age), as well as other Fairfax County children under the age of 18, are eligible for free grab-and-go breakfast and lunch. Our school buses will continue to support this program as well as provide service to programs that support students’ virtual learning.

The serving times will be 8:00am-12:30pm Monday through Friday.

Walk-ups are still welcome at the Herndon/Reston sites listed below. Walkers are asked to use school sidewalks to safely navigate their walk to the pick-up stations

For the bus route schedule click here.

Please note the service times for buses are between 6:00am-8:30am depending on the schedule and stop;  this is to ensure each family can get a breakfast and a lunch before they start classes.

Consent for Digital Resources

At Terraset, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://terrasetes.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your student’s classroom teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

FCPS Launches New Parent Technology Help Desk

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, Fairfax County Public Schools is launching a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent’s behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.

Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and a interpreter will join them on the line. (FCPS also has existing parent information phone lines, available in eight different languages, that can assist with general questions about FCPS.)

FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly.

SR&R Parent Acknowledgement Form

Parents and guardians, please review the Student Rights and Responsibilities and related resources at www.fcps.edu/srr. After reviewing the information, fill out the SR&R Parent Acknowledgement Form using this link we have provided.  The form must be filled out one time per student.

Printed copies of the Family Guide as well as the translated version of the document will not be available until October

Forms

Please look for the following FCPS forms that we will need for all students.  You may fill them out electronically or wait until paper copies are sent home on Curbside Pick Up day. Forms can be through WeCare, scanned and emailed to TerrasetMainOffice@fcps.edu beginning Sept. 1, 2020, or placed in the drop-box next to the doorbell at Lower Door 1.

Health Information and Emergency Care Forms

The Health Information Form and the Emergency Care Information form  provide valuable information regarding student health conditions. These forms are critical in the early identification of students who may need healthcare support in the educational environment. Along with the development of Healthcare Plans and Action Plans, the Public Health Nurses utilize the information contained to develop teaching strategies for FCPS staff in order to meet the requirements of Regulation 2104 Health Services-School Health Related Needs.

As the school year begins virtually, it is important to remember these forms are required for all students for SY 20-21 and are available for electronic submission by parents via their FCPS 24/7 (Blackboard) accounts within the weCare@school (weCare) module

Registration for 2020-2021

Registration of students for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year is to be conducted virtually while schools and offices remain closed.

  • The Enrollment Bundle is the official registration packet and can be sent electronically as a link via e-mail to the parent.  This bundle can be used for students whose families have access to technology that allows them to fill out forms online and send them back to the registrar via e-mail.

Please use this link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4daeae23a6f4c07-registration  to set up an appointment to finalize the registration process in person to provide an original birth certificate.  Parents are also required to provide proof of residency, school records, and proof of all school health entrance requirements as outlined in the Registration Requirements Flyer.

 Band and Orchestra Open House

Orchestra is offered to 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Band is offered to 5th and 6th graders (there are limited instrument choices this year). Band and Orchestra will take place during the club time or Mondays. ALL K-6 students will receive 30 minutes of General Music instruction weekly. Public Library Equity Access Pass

As part of the One Fairfax initiative, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL), and FCPS Library Information Services have partnered in the Library Equity Access Pass (LEAP) pilot program.

On October 1, 2020 the LEAP program will go division-wide, providing FCPS PreK-12 students with public library checkout privileges for books automatically, without the need to register for a physical library card. Student names and ID numbers will be provided to FCPL through an automated data download.  Families who do not wish to participate shall select the opt-out for LEAP in the 2020-21 SR&R document.

Participating in the LEAP program provides:

  • The ability to checkout up to three public library books at a time. At any FCPL library branch, students or parents simply share their name and indicated they are an FCPS student. A virtual account exists and identification is not required.
  • Lost or overdue books will not be charged a fine or replacement fee.  However, only three books can be on a virtual account at a time.
  • Checkouts are limited to physical books. eBooks and public library digital resources cannot be accessed through this account. Students are welcome to establish a standard public library card for full access.

The Fairfax County Public Library is open for Express services and offers curbside checkout.

PTO membership Drive

The Terraset PTO was formed by Terraset parents and is run specifically for the benefit of our school and students. Throughout the year we coordinate and fund programs that enrich our students’ experiences and support our teachers’ and administrators’ goals and ideas.  Because of the unconventional school year, the PTO is promoting our membership drive with incentives to support Terraset staff and students.

Each week we will draw 3 names to win a Terraset giveaway. Prizes include: car magnets, tote bags, T-Shirts, face masks, and a few surprises. We hope to get 20 members joining or rejoining each week. If you have not joined the PTO before, this is a great time to start!

Memberships are only $10. The signup deadline for prize giveaways is October 13th.  Memberships from the 2020-2021 school year have expired.

This year will require even more creativity than ever as we strive to support our school as we always have. Active participation and support from our families is crucial to our success and we thank you in advance!

Social Emotional Wellness Considerations for Parents and Caregivers From the Virginia Department of Education

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has put together a resource listing that will help you and your child to prioritize your mental wellness.  In addition to keeping children physically safe during the pandemic, it is also important to care for their emotional health.  The threat of COVID-19, long-term social distancing, and prolonged disruption to the school routine may create significant stress and impact children's mental well-being.

The information below will assist you in navigating this period together in a healthy way.
