We are doing our best to provide opportunities, in case you have multiple children in different grade levels and have coordinated across the pyramid to not overlap with other schools. Sessions will be recorded for parents that cannot attend.

Grade levels will be holding a joint session and will share a link to attend through their weekly email on Monday. Specialists links will be shared with all families.

Principal's Message

Our open house and first days have gone well.  It is a joy to see our students enjoying games, collaboration and getting to build connections in their classes during these opening days. We will continue to spend time making connections as we start the school year, so please be patient as we teach new tools and build relationships during our time together.  Teachers have worked incredibly hard to space things out as they balance introduction of virtual tools, student stamina on the computer while helping students to connect and build relationships that are vital to instruction.

We are trying to condense messages so you are not getting inundated in our virtual world. While we work hard to keep you informed, we realize information overload is a delicate balance. We realize our one weekly school email is long, but includes important and timely information. Grade level information with learning calendars will come to parents on Monday afternoon of each week, after teacher dedicated weekly planning time. Learning calendars will begin with Tuesday through the following Monday. A weekly news you choose will come from the school with updates. We will note a reminder section, so you don't have to read repeated information, but may find helpful if it is still needed.

Thank you for all your support this week and helping your children get the best start with their teachers and classmates.

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick

Beginning of the Year iReady Math & Reading Assessments

The online iReady assessment (also known as the universal screener) provides an initial view of all students’ foundational skills to help teachers identify students who may have challenges in reading or mathematics. Students in grades K-6 will take the iReady reading assessment. Students in grades 1-6 will take the iReady mathematics assessment. More information about the assessment can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener Parent Notification webpage.

This fall, students will take iReady at home instead of at school. Teachers will discuss the assessment with students in advance, including how to log in and what to expect. Resources to help families administer the assessment at home can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener webpage.

It is important that parents or older siblings do not assist in helping students answer questions so we can get an accurate understanding of where they are. Helping your child to access the program and guiding their completion is appropriate. The iReady assessments do not count for an academic grade, rather used as a tool to assist teachers in learning more about the academic needs of your child.

For questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

AAP Level IV Screening Referral Process for the 2020-21 School Year

We have received information regarding the AAP level IV screening process for the upcoming year. FCPS has updated the Advanced Academic Screening updates on the website found here.

The following adjustments have been made:

  • The parent referral deadline for AAP Level IV Screening will be December 1, 2020 rather than the January time frame and referrals will be collected by email.
  • There will not be CogAT testing.  There will be a process for students without an abilities test to take the NNAT in December.
  • There will not be an option to exercise the one-time retest option this school year.
  • Screening portfolios will be digital.
  • Files will no longer include optional awards/commendations materials.

Chesterbrook will be holding our AAP Level IV parent information nights as we always have to ensure our parents are aware of all steps in this process.  At this point these parent information sessions would be scheduled virtually. Dates on these sessions will be posted as they are scheduled.

Private FCPS Tutoring List

Teachers often receive requests for lists of FCPS teachers that tutor. Some of our Chesterbrook teachers enjoy tutoring students they don't work with after contract hours. Please note, Chesterbrook teachers will provide additional support for students during small group support time and Monday's for intervention during contract hours. Parents can access the list of available Chesterbrook tutors here.  In addition, the Parent Resource center keeps a listing of available tutors.  Parents may contact the Parent Resource Center at prc@fcps.edu to request that listing.
