We hope that everyone is ready for a wonderful first day of school!  We have heard from some parents and teachers about how excited the students were to have a video conference with their teachers. We know that this a different start, but we also know that if we work together; as a family should, it will still be a great school year!  Enjoy the long weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday! Sharon, Willisa and Theresa

Consent Forms for Digital Resources

We need your help!  Many of the software applications your child may use this year require parental consent.  You will find the list of applications by accessing  our school’s adopted digital resources page, on which you will also find the online permission formTo provide your parental consent for each student in your family, please follow this link and complete the information as soon as possible!

It is very important that students attend school every day.  We are working hard to develop lessons based on our students' needs, so we need your help in having your children ready and signed in for school each day by 9:00am. Your child(ren) can enter their classroom as early as 8:45 am.  As the teachers shared, your child’s link to class can be found in the BBCU folder (category) in their FCPS Gmail account.  Please do not share the link because it is unique to your child for security reasons You can view a video in English and/or in Spanish to remind you or your child how to access the link.

If for any reason your child is unable to attend school, you must contact the office to report the reason for the absence.  Please call the attendance line at (703) 799-2020.  One of the many positive aspects of virtual instruction is that teachers will be recording the whole group part of the lessons daily.  You can email your teacher about accessing the recording, if your child is absent. The recording for the session will be located under the BBCU recordings tab in your child’s Bb 24/7 course. You will need to look for the date that was missed and click on it.

If you believe or know that it will be difficult for your child to log in for lessons and you have not shared that information with your child’s teacher, please contact him or her immediately.  We will work with you to come up with a solution, including talking to any child care provider who is interested and needs assistance.

Please Update Your Contact Information

It is so important that we are able to stay in contact with all of our parents and guardians.  We also want you to stay current on school news and plans, so your current contact information is essential. This is especially important because we will need to regularly notify our families about program changes, opportunities, distribution of items and school events.   Contact information may be updated through Parent View.  In addition, we need you to complete the Health Information Form and the Emergency Care form for your child.  You can print out these required forms and drop them off when you pick up your child’s supplies.  You can also submit the forms online by going to your FCPS 24/7 (Blackboard) account to access the weCare@school (weCare) module.  https://www.fcps.edu/resources/parent-communication-overview/wecareschool.

Breakfast and Lunch Information

FCPS has received approval to continue providing free breakfast and lunch to all students in Fairfax County!  Meals can be picked up every day from 8:00am - 12:30pm at the food sites.  The closest location for our families is still Mount Vernon Woods ES, 4015 Fielding St., Alexandria.  The current bus routes can be found at  https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/food/bus.  I am currently working with our Food and Nutrition Services to increase the bus stops for families.  Please make note of the following important information:

  • All households will receive an e-Notify message containing SY 20-21 meal prices, student ID numbers required for meal pick up, and a link to the online free and reduced-price meal application. In addition, households with CEP students will receive an e-Notify message reminding parents/caregivers of this program and the meals benefit.  Households without an email or phone number on file will be mailed a letter.
  • Meal service will continue at Grab & Go school sites as FNS transitions from summer meals to the new school year.  Service times have been expanded for school opening and will begin by 8:00 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m.
  • Bus routes are being added and the current routes updated.  The plan is for meals on buses to be distributed between 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

The school supplies have arrived and we are ready to distribute them to our students!  In addition, Cait Fiocchi and Amy DiBenedetto put bundles of books together that will be given out to all of our Pre-K to Second grade students.  These ladies are amazing and we cannot thank them enough for all of their hard work!!!!   We also must thank our wonderful kindergarten team (Kathryn Deville, Agnes Yeboah, Maria Rea, Rida Rafi, Anthony Pikul, Heidi Johnson, Deidra Dunbar and Ashley Smith) for organizing and handing out manipulatives and supplies during laptop distribution!  Nancy Crockett and Roshni Sharma deserve our appreciation as well for putting resources together for our first graders to use during class! Our WHES teachers are fabulous!

For everyone’s safety we will be distributing the supplies in a drive-through method.  We will distribute the supplies starting during the Family Choice time next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  The children will have access to asynchronous activities from the grade level teacher as well as specialists.  We ask that you come during the window assigned to your child’s grade level.  If you have multiple children you will only need to come up to the school once, as we give you enough supplies for all of your students.  You may come anytime between 3:00 - 5:00 pm each day.

  • 3:00 - 5:00pm Tuesday, September 8 - PreK, K, and 1st and their siblings
  • 3:00 - 5:00pm - Wednesday, September 9 - 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and their siblings
  • 3:00 - 5:00pm - Thursday, September 10 - 5th and 6th and their siblings, any family who was unable to come on Tuesday and Wednesday

Student Technology Needs

photo

If anything changes with your home’s technology resources, please alert your child’s teacher.  For example, if your child needs a laptop or your home does not have reliable internet access please let the teacher know.  The information will be passed along to our technology team, who will get in touch with you to schedule an appointment.  Mi-fi devices have been ordered and families will be contacted who are in the queue to receive them. Please contact Theresa Johnson at tmjohnson@fcps.edu or 703-799-2000 to arrange pickup.

FCPS Parent Technology Help Desk

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, Fairfax County Public Schools has launched a Parent Technology Help Desk.  The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone, they will enter a ticket so the appropriate FCPS team can help. Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and an interpreter will join them on the line. FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly. Get more information about the  Parent Technology Help Desk
