Woodburn News - September 4, 2020

Dear Woodburn Families,

Thank you for helping us to set your child up for success by attending the many events we organized over these last two weeks.  We hope you found our open house to be informative and that your child is excited to start school on Tuesday.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if there is anything we can do to support your family as we begin this new year together.

We are very excited to have our community back together on Tuesday.  Our main priorities for our first week together are that every child be able to access our virtual classrooms, that we begin building strong relationships and classroom communities, and that our wildcats feel a sense of excitement each day.  We are in this together!

We hope you enjoy the long weekend and find time to do things that bring you and your family joy.

Sincerely,

Katy Richman, Principal

Bridget Louder, Assistant Principal

Board Member Bios

This week we invite you to learn about three more of our PTA board members.

April Rosenthal is the PTA Secretary for 2020-2021. She and her husband, Ken, have a rising 1st grader at Woodburn. This is her first year on the board and will be in charge of co-coordinating the outdoor classroom and supporting any other areas that are needed. She loves animals, nature, being outdoors and anything funny, the wittier the better. Her favorite childhood book was The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. April’s love of reading was instilled by her mother and she passes that love on to her own daughter.

Linnea Kessler-Gowell is the Membership Chair for 2020-2021. Her son Miles is a rising fourth grader, and she previously served as the Arts Chair. She loves any documentary focused on food, watching baseball with her son, and mid-century furniture. Her favorite childhood book was To Kill a Mockingbird, but she also read almost every Babysitter's Club book published.

Leslie Borkenhagen is one of the communications co-chairs for 2020-2021. She and her husband, Ryan, have two sons - a third grader and a two year old future Wildcat. In addition to spending time with family and working, she enjoys gardening, reading, and listening to podcasts. One of her favorite series as a child was the Mandie books, which helped to spark her love of historical fiction and mysteries.
