FCPS Launches New Parent Technology Help Desk, Readies Students and Families for Virtual Learning
To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, Fairfax County Public Schools is launching a new Parent Technology Help Desk, effective today, Monday, August 24. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent’s behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.
Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and an interpreter will join them on the line. (FCPS also has existing parent information phone lines, available in eight different languages, that can assist with general questions about FCPS.)
FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly.

Digital Citizenship
Digital citizenship refers to the responsible use of technology by anyone who uses computers, the Internet, and digital devices to engage with society on any level.
As a parent, you might be wondering what apps and games are age-appropriate for your child. How you can help your child enjoy technology and media in a safe way? FCPS recommends a four-pronged approach for supporting children. This approach will help your child become a smart, safe and balanced user of technology. Parents using the four-pronged approach will:
-
Establish expectations by developing and enforcing media and device plans.
-
Select and use age-appropriate media (games, apps, videos, books, and other media types).
-
Use parental controls to set limits.
-
Support your child’s technology use by using it with him/her.

TalkingPoints Parents App
This year, Sleepy Hollow will be using the TalkingPoints app to communicate with you. Communication is particularly essential during distance learning. To help, we ask that all parents and caregivers download the TalkingPoints for Parents app onto your phones. You can find the app in the mobile app store of your choice (Google Play or the App Store from Apple). We encourage all families to use this free app and take advantage of this communication tool.
Breakfast and Lunch Program – Sleepy Hollow ES Families
All FCPS students (regardless of age) are eligible for free grab and go breakfast and lunch, as well as other county children, under the age of 18. Adults picking up meals for children should let staff know how many children's meals they need. Adults may receive meals as well for $2.
A sample lunch would include a turkey and cheese sandwich, an apple, baby carrots with dip, and milk. A sample breakfast would contain a bagel with cream cheese, 100% fruit juice, banana, and milk.
The Willston Multi-Cultural Center, 6131 Willston Dr, Falls Church, will serve both breakfast and lunch between 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM (Monday – Friday).
