Hello Haycock...8.28.20

Dear Parents,

This week our wonderful school staff has engaged in continued professional learning and planning to prepare for virtual learning.  Our technology team has been working at school to pass out laptops and provide technology support.  We finished the week by celebrating our amazing teachers with a drive-up hot dog lunch distribution of "Augie's Doggies!"

Our teachers and staff are looking forward to starting a new school year with their students and connecting with parents through a virtual orientation early next week. Classroom teachers will be contacting you to schedule individual family meetings for introductions.

There have been a lot of questions pertaining to the Monday schedule and attendance. Monday is a required day for students and the day will begin with a morning meeting with classroom teachers. During that time, teachers will inform the students of the expectations for the day. This may include: asynchronous work, support opportunity for students, extensions, and work that needs to be submitted. In addition, students who are receiving special services will have an opportunity to receive program supports. As well, our band and string programs will offer virtual instruction on Monday afternoons. Again, attendance will be taken at morning meeting and students are expected to participate throughout the school day.

Virtual Orientations

Next week, your child's classroom teacher will be scheduling individual conversations with you and your child to share information about logging on the first week of school and to begin building a relationship with you.

School Supply Lists

School supply lists can be found here.

Open House

On Thursday, September 3rd you will receive links to our recorded Open House, which will include introductions to all staff members and teams. Please plan on watching with your child as a kickoff to this school year.

Tech Resources

This year, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use will require your consent before they can be used. You can find Haycock’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: Adopted Digital Resources.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the technology resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year in each grade level.

Tech Support for Parents and Students

To support families who are working with their children during Distance Learning, FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk, effective Monday, August 24th. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Parents or guardians can call this number for basic tech support with parent accounts, help with FCPS student devices, and technical assistance with other FCPS applications. Parents who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call of their preferred language, and an interpreter will join in on the call.

FCPS has also set up Parent and Student Technology Support portal at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/ to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly.
