Good afternoon! It has been a busy week in the Franklin community and we are grateful for all of your support. Our Laptop Distribution was a big success and more information is available below if you need any additional help. We also had two Student Welcome sessions this morning and it was great to have the opportunity to connect with so many Falcons. This email includes several key updates about the following topics:

  • Upcoming Events
  • Virtual Student Orientation
  • Weekly Student Schedule
  • How to Access Student Schedules & SIS Login Directions
  • Beginning of the School Year Forms
  • Parent Technology Help Desk
  • Parental Consent for Select Digital Resources
  • Laptop Information

I would like to send a huge thank you to the PTA for all of their support this week. Their kindness and generosity was greatly appreciated by our staff.

Always feel free to reach out to me at dpwright@fcps.edu if there is anything we can do to support your student or your family as we prepare for the start of the year.

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend. We look forward to connecting with you at several of our events next week.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Beginning of School Year Forms

As we prepare to virtually open schools this fall, we ask that all parents/guardians for rising 7th and 8th graders update the annual required school forms. Updates to the following forms are all necessary for your students to begin school this year. This information can also be found on our website.

Emergency Care Form  Required for all students. Complete via weCare.

Health Information Form  Only for students with medical concerns. Email completed form to Kristine Chevannes-Smith (kchevannessm@fcps.edu).

Digital Resources Parent Consent Form

If you currently do not have a SIS parent account, please contact Kristine Chevannes-Smith (kchevannessm@fcps.edu).

Parental Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Franklin Middle School, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Parent Technology Help Desk

To support families who are working with their children during virtual learning, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 am and 11 pm, seven days a week. Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call, and an interpreter will join them live on the call. If help desk staff members are unable to solve the issue, they will request help from the appropriate FCPS team. FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly.

Laptop Information

If you were unable to pick up your child’s FCPSOn laptop, there are additional opportunities next week to do so. Be sure your child knows his or her student ID# and password before arriving.
