Underclass Collection of School Issued Items:

WE NEED YOUR HELP! As we are preparing for the start of the school year, we must have course materials available for students. Student textbooks, and other school issued items (excluding laptops), must be returned before we can distribute course materials. Please make plans to drop off any outstanding school items you may have on Tuesday, September 1 from 12:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m. Your assistance and partnership is greatly appreciated.

Items should arrive in a paper bag with the students’ name, ID number, and bag contents listed on a sheet affixed to the bag. Please enter via the main parking lot entrance and proceed to the back of the school to entrance #10 (bus loop).

For everyone’s safety, we ask that masks be worn for drop off and prior to arrival, the bag should be placed in the vehicle trunk for retrieval.

Virtual Saxon Start "Class of 2024"

Visit Virtual Saxon Start for information.

  • On Monday and Tuesday, your students will receive emails in their FCPSschools.net Gmail accounts with links to several asynchronous videos and modules, including a welcome video from our administration, a tour of the building, advice from upperclassman, and more. Participation in these modules is completely voluntary, and we hope this information will assist your students as they transition to a new school environment. Please remind your students to check their FCPSschools.net gmail account beginning Monday, August 31st for this information.
  • On Wednesday, we will hold synchronous virtual orientations for both freshman students and parents at 9 AM. The PTSA will be sending a link for that meeting and we hope to have everyone there!
  • On Thursday, we invite all students to attend a virtual “open house” check in event beginning at 9 AM,  which will allow students to meet their teachers and practice logging into the new Schoology system. Information will be sent regarding this event.

As we prepare for the upcoming virtual school year, it is important to follow these best practices.  To assist with preparing FCPSOn devices remotely, students who have a laptop at home should do the following once per week beginning in August

1.    Plug the device into an outlet.

2.    Turn the device on and let it boot up.

3.    Ensure that the laptop is connected to the internet.

4.    Let the device sit for 30 minutes. No additional action is required.

5.    Do this once per week to ensure the laptop has the latest updates.

If you cannot remember last year’s password, it can be recovered, managed and changed by clicking on this link: https://itweb.fcps.edu/accountrecovery/index.cfm

  • Student must not have a fever or be exhibiting any Covid-19 symptoms
  • Student must maintain distance & wear a mask when not being photographed
  • Only students with appointments will be permitted to enter the building, no accompanying friends or family

Senior Portrait Attire

In an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19, students must provide their own semi-formal attire for their senior yearbook portraits.

Suggestions include:

  • Solid color clothing

Langley offers onsite SAT to all seniors

On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, Langley High School twelfth graders will have the opportunity to take the SAT School Day test. FCPS will cover the cost for any twelfth grade student to take the SAT. The optional essay component and subject tests will not be offered on this date.

To assist in planning for this test administration and FCPS bus transportation needs, families are asked to complete the intention to test form by COB Monday, August 31. Only those students wishing to test should complete the form. The intention form and a translated version of the form content may be found on the SAT School Day Intent webpage.

General information about the SAT test format is available on the College Board webpage. September 23 has been designated for asynchronous learning, so students who choose to take the SAT will not miss synchronous learning time with their teachers.

We will share more details about test day schedules, bus transportation, and specific safety protocols in the coming weeks. Final confirmation of SAT School Day testing will be based on health department guidance in September.

If you have questions about the SAT School Day administration, please contact Janice Dabroski at jldabroski@fcps.edu

Please consider sharing your artistic side with this contest. The due date is October 7, so the last week of summer is a perfect time to create something.  Categories are: Dance, Film Production, Music Composition, Literature, Photography, and Visual Arts.

See https://www.vapta.org/programs/arts-and-education/reflections-top for guidelines, category rules, and to see some winners from last year.  Sending in your art has never been easier! We will do everything via DropBox and email.

The Courtyard Has Trees!

When students (eventually!) return to Langley, a greener courtyard awaits! Wheat's just completed Phase 1 of the main courtyard landscaping project, which includes an abundance of trees, shrubs, and plants. Many thanks to the hundreds of Langley families who donated a leaf to the Langley Legacy Tree to support the project.

3

If you haven't yet donated, now's your chance! We still have an empty Science Courtyard that needs landscaping. Donate a leaf to the Langley Legacy Tree, the beautiful wall sculpture that is "growing" in Langley’s lobby (across from the main office). The Legacy Tree is a permanent and prominent record of generous courtyard contributors. Choose your engraved message — leaves make wonderful tributes to students, teachers, family and friends! Giving levels are copper leaf ($50), silver leaf ($100), gold leaf ($200) and acorn or bird ($500). Click on ptsalangley.org and look for the Legacy Tree article to donate your tree leaves/acorns/birds. Questions Email chrissielavin1@gmail.com
