Back to School Updates

Dear Families,

We hope you are all enjoying the final weeks of summer break. Teachers have been busy working to prepare for the start of the online school year on Tuesday, September 8th.

This week, teachers have been reaching out to schedule and complete virtual home visits with every family. This is how you will learn your child’s teacher, how to access the virtual classroom and ask questions you might have regarding the start of the school year. If you have not heard from your child’s teacher by Friday, August 28, please call the school’s main line at 571-226-2700 and let us know!

If you indicated you need a laptop or MiFi device, you will receive a phone call this week with your scheduled date and time. Laptop appointments will be scheduled for the first week in September. Please fill out the Graham Road Technology Needs form if you have not already shared you need a laptop or MiFi device.

Please see important notes below that will help you prepare for the online school year! Individual grade level schedules are being emailed to parents this week. Please be on the lookout for this important information.

Questions? Please reach out! We are here to help and excited about the school year to begin!

Principal

Tuesday - Friday Schedule

Students will receive a link to join their classroom in their FCPS Gmail account. They will need to log on one time and they will stay in this virtual classroom all day long. Teachers will log in and out for different parts of the day. Students have scheduled screen breaks throughout the day but there will be no need for students to log in to different places except in special circumstances and teachers will communicate those directly with families. For student directions on how to access FCPS Gmail, please visit G Suite Information for Students and Parents.

Monday Schedule

Students will receive a link to join their grade level in their FCPS Gmail account. They will join all students in their grade level from 9:00 - 12:00 for enrichment and intervention. Our specialists will be providing hour long enrichment sessions while teachers pull students into breakout rooms to provide targeted instruction based on individual needs. We hope students have fun and get what they need!

Attendance

Attendance will be taken every day. However, all direct instruction will be recorded and posted on grade level Google sites so in extenuating circumstances parents can work with their children to participate asynchronously later if needed. More information will be shared in the coming weeks directly from FCPS on how parents can indicate if children participated asynchronously if they are marked absent. While attending synchronous, teacher-led instruction will provide the greatest educational experience for students online, our goal is to provide maximum flexibility and opportunities for participation to all families.

School Supplies

We are busy purchasing and organizing supply bags for each student at Graham Road to include necessary materials for online learning. These items will include headphones, basic school supplies, math manipulatives, books, etc. We will have these supply bags available at school for pick up and will likely be delivering to bus stops in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience as we prepare these supplies for distribution and we will communicate plans as they are developed.

Family Feedback Needed

We need your feedback as we consider what family engagement efforts might best strengthen our partnership with you! If you’re available to provide feedback to staff on some action items we’re developing, please join us on Thursday, September 3 at 12:30 PM by clicking this link: https://us.bbcollab.com/guest/97ebbc56e79645e58727e45175b99108. We want to hear from you!

Virtual Open House, Wednesday, September 2 at 6:30PM

Please join your child’s teacher on Wednesday, September 2 at 6:30 PM in his/her virtual classroom for virtual open house! Links will be sent to your child’s FCPS Gmail account so you can join with your child just as he/she would do for school. Teachers will share information you need to know so your family is ready for the first day of online school. If you are unable to attend live, sessions will be recorded and posted to grade level Google sites.

Health Information and Emergency Care Forms

The Health Information Form (HIF) (SS/SE -71) and the Emergency Care Information form (SS/SE-3) provide valuable information regarding student health conditions. These forms are critical in the early identification of students who may need healthcare support in the educational environment. Along with the development of Healthcare Plans (HCP) and Action Plans, the Public Health Nurses (PHN) utilize the information contained in the HIF to develop teaching strategies for FCPS staff in order to meet the requirements of Regulation 2104 Health Services-School Health Related Needs. Both these forms are required for all students for SY 20-21 and are available for electronic submission by parents via their FCPS 24/7 (Blackboard) accounts within the weCare@school (weCare) module. We will also be sending home forms next week that can be filled out and sent back to school.
