2020-2021 Opening of School

Bryant High School Students and Families,

I hope everyone has continued to have a safe and healthy August.  Congratulations to our seniors who finished up this summer and recently received their high school diplomas!  We are excited to be getting closer to the start of school on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 and look forward to seeing many familiar faces and meeting our newly registered students and families.  As you may know from communications through the summer that you have received from the superintendent’s office, that all Fairfax County Public School students will be attending school “virtually” for at least the first grading period of the 2020-2021 school year.  Students will be expected to log in and connect with all of their teachers Tuesday – Friday with Mondays being reserved for independent work and study with some students invited to participate in small intervention and support sessions as needed.  The online learning and time connected with instructors will look very different than compared to what students experienced in the spring after our initial COVID closures in March.

One of the most important things that all students can do while they wait for more information is checking that they have a working FCPS laptop that is charged and is connected to the internet to receive county program and security updates.  To ensure that your computer is ready for the start of school, please make sure to start your laptops at least once a week and let them stay on for about 30 minutes.

We will be working to contact all students and families over the next several weeks to both welcome you to the new year, to check on computer health and internet connectivity, and to make sure that all students are clear about expectations for the start of school and are ready to log in and attend school the first day that we open our “virtual” doors!

Similar to all schools, we continue to work on the master schedule and student schedules with student schedules going “live” and accessible through the county SIS platform on September 3, 2020.  We are working on scheduling a Virtual Student Orientation as well and will get out communications about this event as we prepare for our start.

For now, please continue to stay healthy by following all Health Department guidelines and recommendations and take some time to read and review information for parents and guardians on this county link here https://www.fcps.edu/blog?field_term_blog_topic_target_id=247 and continued updates and information posted to the Bryant High School web page here https://bryanths.fcps.edu/.

We look forward to a great start to the 2020-2021 school year and please look for future News You Choose communications coming soon.

Have a great weekend!
