As we prepare for the upcoming virtual school year, it is important to follow these best practices.  To assist with preparing FCPSOn devices remotely, students who have a laptop at home should do the following once per week beginning in August

1.    Plug the device into an outlet.

2.    Turn the device on and let it boot up.

3.    Ensure that the laptop is connected to the internet.

4.    Let the device sit for 30 minutes. No additional action is required.

5.    Do this once per week to ensure the laptop has the latest updates.

If you cannot remember last year’s password, it can be recovered, managed and changed by clicking on this link: https://itweb.fcps.edu/accountrecovery/index.cfm

Deadline for Requesting PSAT Accommodations- August 25th

The deadline for all juniors with an IEP/504 Plan requesting College Board accommodations for the tentatively scheduled PSAT testing on Wednesday, October 14, MUST apply no later than Tuesday, August 25.  If you have an IEP, contact:  pgjelinek@fcps.edu for assistance.  If you have a 504 Plan, contact jldabroski@fcps.edu for assistance.

Langley offers onsite SAT to all seniors

Langley High School will be offering the SAT (without essay) onsite to all rising seniors on Wednesday, September 23.  FCPS will be covering the cost for all seniors. Registration information for the September 23rd SAT will be shared in the coming weeks once details are finalized.  However, in order to meet the August 25th ordering deadline and begin planning the administration of the test, we ask all seniors to respond no later than COB August 24th  by signing into their @fcpsschools.net account and completing the 1 question survey (found here: https://forms.gle/B7zoRTdWdUmnrCgx7) as to whether or not they wish to take the SAT on September 23.  All “non responses” to the email will default to not taking the test.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Janice Dabroski at jldabroski@fcps.edu

Counselor Alpha Redistribution

Every several years it is necessary for us to re-distribute the caseloads of our school counselors.  Those students impacted received an email last week and were followed up with their ‘new’ counselor.  Due to the important role that school counselors play in the part of students, we recognize that this shift is no small one.  However, in order to maintain a manageable caseload for counselors and support their ability to serve each child, this shift is necessary.  That being said, while the alpha shift will occur for all students, we fully recognize that seniors in particular may wish to remain connected to their previous counselor as they navigate the post-secondary planning process this fall, which we are happy to oblige.  Please note the new alpha breakdown for students below.

The Courtyard Has Trees!

When students (eventually!) return to Langley, a greener courtyard awaits! Wheat's just completed Phase 1 of the main courtyard landscaping project, which includes an abundance of trees, shrubs, and plants. Many thanks to the hundreds of Langley families who donated a leaf to the Langley Legacy Tree to support the project.

3

If you haven't yet donated, now's your chance! We still have an empty Science Courtyard that needs landscaping. Donate a leaf to the Langley Legacy Tree, the beautiful wall sculpture that is "growing" in Langley’s lobby (across from the main office). The Legacy Tree is a permanent and prominent record of generous courtyard contributors. Choose your engraved message — leaves make wonderful tributes to students, teachers, family and friends! Giving levels are copper leaf ($50), silver leaf ($100), gold leaf ($200) and acorn or bird ($500). Click on ptsalangley.org and look for the Legacy Tree article to donate your tree leaves/acorns/birds. Questions Email chrissielavin1@gmail.com
