Back to School Updates from Principal Badini

Dear Parents,

We have been very busy planning and preparing for the virtual start to the school year. Please see some important notes below. More detailed information will be coming prior to the first day of school.

  • All students will begin school on Tuesday, September 8th virtually/online.
  • Detailed schedules will be shared with grade level family groups, but for planning purposes, all families should expect:

On Mondays:

    • Students will log on from 9:00 - 12:00 for a mix of enrichment and intervention activities based on needs.
    • There will be something for students to do the entire time. They will log into one place and adults will rotate to provide access to different learning opportunities.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays:

    • The school day will begin at our normal time, and students should log on to their classrooms by 9:20 AM.
    • The whole school will have a common lunch time beginning around 11:45 AM and will allow for ample time to visit our closest Grab n Go meal site.
    • The schedule will allow for breaks throughout the day and official teacher-led instruction will conclude no later than 3:30 PM.
    • Each grade level will have a Google site to organize and share asynchronous learning activities.
  • We are working to finalize class placements and will share your child’s teacher with you through ParentVue. If you have not signed up for ParentVue, please watch these videos to learn how:
  • Teachers will be completing Virtual Home Visits beginning August 17. While we cannot continue our Welcome Walks throughout the community, teachers still want to introduce themselves and connect with you through an online platform. If you receive a call from a blocked or number you don’t recognize, please answer! It may be your child’s teacher trying to schedule a virtual visit with you.
  • All students are required to have their physical and immunizations up to date before the first day of school to participate in the online classes.  If you have updated physical or immunization paperwork to submit, please email Mr. Newlon (trnewlon@fcps.edu) to coordinate getting the paperwork to school.

More information will be shared as it's developed. Please email me with questions, lebadini@fcps.edu.

Laptops and MiFi Devices

If you received a Graham Road laptop for your child in May/June your child can keep that computer for the upcoming school year.  We will also provide MiFi internet devices for families without home internet access.

If your child did not receive a Graham Road laptop or you need a MiFi device, please complete the Graham Road Technology Needs Form. You will be contacted to schedule an appointment for the first week in September.

Laptop Return for Rising Seventh Graders

Luther Jackson Middle School will be collecting student devices that were checked out in the spring the week of August 10-14.  If you are a rising 7th grader who borrowed a device from Graham Road, you may return the device to Graham Road on August 10th from 10AM-2PM.

If August 10th doesn't fit your schedule, or Luther Jackson Middle School is more convenient, you may return your FCPS laptop to Luther Jackson Middle School any day that week between 8AM-2PM. Students are highly encouraged to drop off their borrowed devices BEFORE coming to the FCPSOn device pick-up where they will receive their new laptop. This will speed up the process of getting your new device and all students MUST return any previous devices they borrowed before they are issued a new device.  Please bring your borrowed FCPS computer and the charger that came with the device to Luther Jackson.

  • Drop off will be done at the rear of the school using Gatehouse Road and loop around towards Door 4 near the rear of the cafeteria
  • Building access will not be permitted
  • Students and parents, please remain in your car and a staff member will approach your car when they are ready to take your device
  • Parents will tell the staff member the name of their student
  • Please allow us time to check in the device and verify the process for you.
  • While it is preferred that parents and students drive to the school, walk-ups will be handled as well. If you do walk up to the school, please ensure you adhere to social distancing and please wear a mask.
