Student Laptop Distribution

Distribution of laptops will occur on the following days and times:

  • Monday, August 17:  10:00 – 11:15AM and 1:00 – 3:15PM
  • Tuesday, August 18:  9:00 – 11:15AM and 1:00 – 3:15PM
  • Wednesday, August 19:  9:00 – 11:15AM and 1:00 – 3:15PM
  • Thursday, August 20:  9:00 – 11:15AM and 1:00 – 3:15PM
  • Friday, August 21:  9:00 – 11:15AM and 1:00 – 3:00 PM
  • Monday, August 24:  9:00 – 11:15AM and 1:00 – 3:15PM

There are some important procedures that we ask all families to follow to help make this a safe and efficient process:

  • The cafeteria will be the site of the distribution.  Social distancing measures will be in effect to provide effective space requirements.  Signing up for a time slot is necessary to help with maintaining social distancing. 
  • The student and a parent must be present to receive the laptop.  To limit the number of people, we ask that only one parent attends with their child.
  • Upon arrival at the cafeteria, a short list of health check questions will be asked to the student and parent.  Face masks must be worn while in attendance.
  • When picking up the laptop, students will need to be able to create a complex password (at least eight characters, including lower and upper case letters, one number and one symbol), set-up their recovery information (have another email address or cell phone number ready) as well as log into Google and Blackboard.  The process takes approximately 15 minutes.  Please consider this password prior to your visit to save time when at school.
  • Staff members will be on hand to verify the completion of the log-in process.

PTA Meeting

The RCMS PTA will hold it's first Membership Meeting for the year 2020-2021 on August 20,2020 at 6:30 pm virtually.  Meeting link will be emailed to all PTA Members. Your membership and attendance are vital to making RCMS PTA successful. We need your support. Go to www.rcmspta.org to join the RCMS PTA.  This is a great opportunity to meet with our Principal, Gordon Stokes, and a few other staff members.

In addition, PTA will host a guest speaker Sudha Purihella, Psychotherapist and Professional Counselor, who will present "Well being of the students during these unprecedented times."

 


FCPS 24/7 Learning/Blackboard Accounts

On August 17th, the email address field for all student FCPS 24-7 Learning/Blackboard accounts will be automatically updated to each student’s individual @fcpsschools.net email address. This change is necessary to accurately provision student accounts and access to online textbooks and other digital resources. After August 17, neither students, their parents, nor staff will be able to change the student’s email address in FCPS 24-7. 

Daily Notification emails, which include all notifications of changes made in courses that day, will now be sent to the student’s @fcpsschools.net account. Some parents may have previously entered their own email addresses into their children’s FCPS 24-7 Learning/Blackboard profiles to receive Daily Notification emails. With this change, parents will no longer receive these emails to their parent email address, as the emails will now go to their student’s @fcpsschools.net account. So that teachers can share information with parents, please be sure to set up a FCPS 24-7 Parent SIS account to be able to log into Blackboard and receive course emails from your child's teachers.


RCMS 101

Optional Middle School Transition Program for Rising 7th Grade Students

Hurry...registration closes Friday, August 21!

This year's RCMS 101 will be held virtually the week of August 31.  Although there are two scheduled 2-day sessions, Session 1 is now full and all newly registered students will be placed in Session 2, which will take place on September 2 and 3.

If possible, each student should have the following items: index cards or paper, scissors and either tape or glue

This program is free to all rising 7th grade students.  Information was sent to all rising 7th grade families on Friday, August 7.  Please check your email for this information.  Register your student at: RCMS 101 Registration

Due to the virtual start for this school year, all forms, required and optional, will have to be completed and submitted electronically.  It is more important than ever that parents have their own Parent SIS Account. If you do not yet have an account, you can learn more about how to obtain one at ParentVue New Account Registration

Virtual Orientation for All Students

RCMS will host a Virtual Orientation for all students on Thursday, September 3, from 12:30-2:30PM  (please note this is a revised time).  Students will be able to view their class schedules on September 2.  Using their schedules, students will be able to visit their classes for a brief introduction from their teachers.  Please note that students should attend classes as they are assigned.  If there is a need to make a change to a student's schedule, these changes will be made AFTER the Virtual Orientation.
