Annual Virginia Tax Holiday Applies to School Supplies, Clothing Purchases
School will start virtually this fall for students in FCPS and families in Virginia will get a sales tax break on clothes and supplies for school when the state holds its annual Virginia tax holiday, August 7-9.
To be eligible for the tax break, school supply items must be priced at $20 or less, and clothing and footwear must be priced at $100 or less.
HERNDON ES grade level school supply lists are also posted on our website.
Among the eligible school supplies are art and music supplies, calculators, composition books and notebooks, paper, dictionaries, crayons, lunch boxes, pens, pencils, and reference books.

Herndon Elementary Virtual Return to School Town Hall Meetings August 10 and 11
There will be two Herndon Elementary Return to School Town Hall Meetings to talk about the plan to start the school year virtually.

FCPS Return to School Town Hall August 12, 6-7pm
Superintendent Brabrand will host Return to School Town Halls for the FCPS community each Wednesday beginning August 12 through September 2. The events will be livestreamed on the FCPS website and available on FCPS Cable TV Channel 99. Please email questions to ReturntoSchool@fcps.edu before the Town Halls, or call 1-800-231-6359 during the events to ask questions “on the air.” Town halls will be held from 6-7 p.m. Recordings will be posted on the FCPS website.

WHAT IS OPPORTUNITY NEIGHBORHOOD?
Opportunity Neighborhood (ON) is a Fairfax County initiative that brings residents,community-based organizations, FCPS, Fairfax County, and other supporters together to build a community with accessible resources and services that children, youth and their families need to be successful.
WHAT IS A NEIGHBORHOOD AMBASSADOR?
Neighborhood Ambassadors are residents that represent their community and act as a bridge between other neighborhood residents and their local school, government, faith groups, nonprofits, businesses, and other partners.

WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT?
Neighborhood Ambassadors get the training they need to represent their community. While they work on their personal goals as leaders with a mentor, they work with other community leaders, Cornerstones staff, Fairfax County government, Fairfax County Public Schools, and other community partners between 15 - 20 hours a month. All Neighborhood Ambassadors receive a monthly stipend of $100.00.
