Annandale Community:

We continue to receive more information and guidance about the coming school year. The Virginia High School League Executive Committee met last week and voted to delay all sports and activities until December 14 and adopted a condensed interscholastic plan. In addition, marching band has also been cancelled for the fall and will be reassessed in alignment with the VHSL. Here are the details of this plan:

  • Season 1 (Winter) December 14 – February 20 (First Contest Date – December 28)
    • basketball, gymnastics, indoor track, swim/dive, wrestling
  • Season 2 (Fall) February 15 – May 1 (First Contest Date – March 1)
    • cheer, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, volleyball
  • Season 3 (Spring) April 12 – June 26 (First Contest Date – April 26)
    • baseball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field

“This plan leaves open the opportunity to play all sports in all three seasons if Virginia moves beyond Phase III and/or Phase III guidelines are revised and High Risk Activities are allowed,” said VHSL Executive Director Dr. John W. “Billy” Haun.  The plan also allows schools the opportunity focus on the additional planning associated with the opening of school. If you have any questions, please contact our Director of Student Activities, John Ellenberger, at jellenberger@fcps.edu

At Annandale, we are deep in planning the master schedule, attending and creating virtual professional development for our staff, and working through freshman laptop distribution and other back to school related logistics. Stay tuned for more information regarding laptop distribution.

In addition, we continue our efforts to make improvements throughout the campus. John Ellenberger and his crew have been hard at work spackling holes in classroom walls in preparation to paint next week. Our building engineer, Latif Khanjari, has spent this week checking and repairing electrical outlets and light switches in all of the classrooms so that they can be safely cleaned.

Finally, we need your help. We would like to include all stakeholders in our efforts to prepare for a great school year and ensure we are providing the right support for our students, we are seeking your feedback. I know that distance learning this past spring had its successes and its challenges. As we continue our preparation, we would like to know what went well for your student(s), what was challenging, and what supports you may need moving forward. Please take a moment to complete this parent feedback form to help shape our approach.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
