We are getting new laptops ready to go for all Kilmer students

Hello Kilmer Families!

To the families of our 7th and 8th graders: Welcome!  We have so much to share with you. Our staff has been planning and preparing for learning and are looking forward to seeing your students in a few short weeks.

Laptop Distribution

We are excited to let you know about FCPSon, the FCPS digital transformation initiative. Each Kilmer student will get a new laptop, charger and carrying case. FCPSOn provides equitable access to technology and to instructional practices that support students' development of Portrait of a Graduate attributes. In addition, this initiative will support FCPS’ virtual start.

As part of the initiative, all middle school students will be issued a laptop, charger, and carrying case for learning at school and at home. An annual technology support fee of $50 will be charged to middle and high school students. This fee will help ensure students have access to the technology they need by defraying the cost to repair and replace equipment, ensuring all students have the necessary laptops for testing, and providing back-up laptops as a substitute as needed. All students will need access to the same software, which might not be compatible with self-provided laptops. (See link to website below for FAQs.) The technology support fee is included in the superintendent’s FY 2021 Approved Budget and be charged through MySchoolBucks in the 1st quarter. Students who have Free and Reduced status and have given consent to share their FRM status for a waiver or reduction of the technology support fee will be charged a reduced rate.

Mark Your Calendar! Our technology team is working hard to prepare student laptops for distribution starting the week of August 17, 2020.  A sign-up genius will be sent out the week of August 10th for you to sign up for a time slot. Health Department Guidelines and social distancing requirements must be adhered to for laptops to be distributed to students. More details and links to required documents will be sent out prior to the distribution.  Please note that any devices borrowed from elementary schools must be returned to that school prior to receiving a device from Kilmer.

Please visit the FCPSOn webpage for more about FCPSOn.

Cougars Connect: A Virtual Orientation

We are developing a website for students and parents that will support the transition back to school. The Cougars Connect Website will go live on Monday, August 10. We will send the link out to the Kilmer community on Monday morning. We will also be hosting a virtual (live) orientation August 24-August 28. The orientation week will include synchronous and asynchronous transition activities. We will send out a detailed schedule of the week soon.

School Supplies

School supply list will be available on the Kilmer MS website by Friday of this week. Please note that some elective teachers may request additional supplies once the school year begins.
