NYC

Dear Parents,

We are grateful to each and everyone of you and our amazing Bailey’s staff.  Thank you for partnering with us as we kick off the 2020-2021 school year.  Below are some things to know for the week and year ahead.  As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions, suggestions, or ideas.  jkeasa@fcps.edu

  1. FCPS has made the decision to start all students virtually/online.  The first day of school will be September 8, 2020.
  2. Our 2020-2021 bell schedule will be the same as it was last year 9:00 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. (FCPS is reverting back to the 19-20 bell schedule now that all students are starting online).  We will provide the daily instructional schedule to families by August 7.

  3. All FCPS students will receive a laptop (not just one per family).  Laptops will be distributed between August 17 – September 4.  If you received a Bailey’s laptop for your child in May/June your child will keep that computer for the upcoming school year.  We will also provide MiFi internet devices for families who need internet.
  4. We are working to finalize class placements and will share your child’s teacher with you by August 14.
  5. All students are required to have their physical and immunizations up to date before the first day of school to participate in the online classes.  If you have updated physical or immunization paperwork to submit, please email Sofia Arias,  SEArias@fcps.edu to coordinate getting the paperwork to school.

Bailey’s Summer Reading Programs

For Rising 3rd Graders

Reading during the summer will help you enter school next year as a stronger student.... and it’s fun!  Every year, we try to encourage your summer reading with our Bailey’s Upper Summer Reading Incentive.  This year, it is all online.  Here is the link to the form to list the books that you read:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gxf0mvZ5dWO5OrWsCiPaEwQJFg5mY4A5VVCtVourwA8/edit?usp=sharing

**Please make a copy for your Google Drive, then share it with Mrs. Lindgren.

Questions? Contact Linda Lindgren, Bailey’s Upper ES librarian at LCLindgren@fcps.edu

For Rising K, 1st and 2nd Graders

You have two options.  1) Take any piece of paper.  Record the title and author of each book you read or have read to you this summer.  myON or other ebooks count, but don’t forget to get the title and author.  Ten or more, please!  Give it to Mrs. Perreault, the librarian, when we return to school. Or 2) read for 150 minutes or more in myON.  No need for paper, myON keeps track of your minutes. 1 or 2 completed-you earn a free book!

Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Program

This summer’s program “Imagine Your Story!” is online!  Go to this link to register.   Summer Reading App    https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/booklog/summerreading/home/index

To play, you will download and complete game boards.  They are available in English and Spanish.  Books will be recommended and there will also be free choice.

Rewards:  No coupon books this year.  Not everyone will win a prize.  As readers complete milestones, they are automatically entered into drawings for Amazon gift cards.  If you complete all three challenges, you are entered into a drawing for tickets to a Washington Nationals game prize pack for your family.

Want to know more?  Here’s the FCPL Summer Reading Adventure 2020 playlist on YouTube that features promo videos with basic information about the program (in English and Spanish) as well as short book talks for preschoolers, school-age kids, and teens.

Need help? Spanish is available.  Contact your local library.  Woodrow Wilson: 703-820-8774.  Or go to Fairfax County Public Library  and enter your question in the Ask the Librarian box.

Mental Wellness Consultation 2020

The FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will continue to offer mental wellness consultations throughout the summer. If you have concerns about your child’s well-being or if your child would like to speak with a school psychologist or school social worker, please request a consultation.  Our FCPS mental health providers are available to help families get needed support through a 45-minute phone consultation or through secure video conferencing. Appointments are open to all FCPS families.

Consultations are offered in two ways:

  • Directly to parents of students in any grade level. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social-emotional, behavioral, or academic functioning. Information about community resources will also be made available.
  • Directly to students in middle or high school. This consultation provides support and strategies to students who may be experiencing difficulties with anxiety, mood, behavior, or peer or family interactions; as well as academic challenges such as organization, time-management, or adjusting to a new school.

We encourage parents to take advantage of this service. Click here to request a consultation. You may also leave us a message at 571-423-4276.
